THE ORVILLE S2, E7: "DEFLECTORS"

Went back and rewatched the first season. So much better than this current season. The stories were better. There was much more action. Funnier jokes. Better everything. There was only one meh episode (dr Finn and her bratty kids was ok, but I can’t stand listening to whiny shits). I have no idea wtf this season is, but I know it sucks.

As I tend to miss episodes and forget to watch the beginning of some episodes, I would say I'm not much of an authority on the show.
However, I do feel that many viewers put a lot of weight and thought to parts of the show I tend to view as filler.
I saw this episode as having an 'A' story, Talia dating a Moclan, and her investigation of her potential mate's death, 'B' story the potential ramifications of Klyden's actions,
The rest is filler.

There was some fun action at the beginning of the show with the ship firing at the Orville.
However, it was filler.

Because she wears big girl panties and just looks at it like it really is.

The guy was upset.
Getting a lot of texts isn't really a big deal.
The Flower Guy was just going to bat for his friend, he was going to kill Kelly.

It was all just rather a nuisance.
Everyone now acts like everything is sexual Harrassment or somehow a major issue when it isn't.
It starts with texts. It ends with women getting killed by their ex-partners. Again and again. Just happened in Frankfurt the other day.

While it probably would have been a cliché to have him do a 180 degree and go all bad, I too wish this part of the story would have been explored a bit more. The point is, how can you be sure he would not go further? What makes a guy flip?

The main point is that he didn’t care about her feelings, only his own. He didn’t see it as an equal relationship, it was his and she was wrong to take that away from him. It’s disgusting and creepy behavior, he deserves any punishment he gets because his obsession crossed into illegal acts.

I agree it's bad behavior. But the feeling of being in love creates the exact same brain activity as obsessive compulsive disorder. People aren't entirely themselves when they're trying to process being dumped. I never did stuff like that, but I remember after getting dumped by an ex finding her password-protected online journal and breaking into it, because I was trying to find some sort of answer to how I fucked things up so bad. I was ashamed about it almost immediately.

Regardless, I think the show treated his creepiness in a lighthearted manner because a heavy B-plot to go along with the heavy A-plot would have been too much.

There’s really no excuse when it comes to violating the privacy of another human being. It really shows one doesn’t really see the other as independent person, but as an object they owned and had a right to do whatever they wanted. It’s likely the root of why the relationship failed in the first place, especially since they are unable to see that.

All Cassius was trying to do was get her to respond to him after she cut him out of her life. Kelly knew better than to respond to his frantic attempts in any way. That would only give him false hope and prolong the whole situation. He wasn't a bad guy, just shocked and brokenhearted. Who hasn't been in this kind of situation before?
When my long ago ( I mean VERY long ago) boyfriend dumped me suddenly (to me) for one of my best girlfriends, I frantically called them over and over until I regained my self esteem; about a week. Kelly knew she just had to wait him out, until he recovered from the shock and accepted the situation.

Well I've been stalked twice before once was real life and once was Internet.

The real life one sat out side where I lived and watched who came and went.
Later he came into my place and said he was going to blow his brains out.
I could have called the police but honestly I didn't want to mess his life up even more. He moved on after a while.

The other, on the Internet, since I didn't know that person, I didn't really care what happened to him. So there was another guy I knew that was a member of a large organization that sent the guy a message to leave me alone. The guy left me alone after that.

I looked at the whole thing like Kelly figured the ex, was upset, why make his life worse by reporting something that was mainly a nuisence?
Did I miss in the show, were the e-mail pornographic? We're they threatening?
Was he trying to humiliate her to her co-workers?
I was under the impression that he was just trying to get her to come back to him. Is there something wrong with that?

Has nobody ever been convinced to go back with someone they broke up with?
Is that some sort of freakish oddity now?

A very nice woman got back with me (for a year!) because she was furious that I was making out with a different woman, after she broke up with me a week earlier.

This is what I actually said: "If you are this jealous and angry, then you obviously still want to be with me."

Creepy, obsessive and overly possessive behavior are turn-offs for most people. It’s probably the exact reason it failed. The fact that so many find this behavior not only acceptable but deserving of sympathy comes off as disturbing at best.

You could have some sympathy for me after all of he had blown his brains out like he said he was going to do I would have had to clean the mess up.

I’m not going to feel any for a creep who would try to do that to force guilt on them. It’s emotional abuse. They need to be held in a mental hospital for their own safety.

Now I really can't figure out whether people are more annoyed at Cassius for acting "creepy" or Kelly for evidently being okay with it.
It’s Cassius, he’s the problem. Kelly being okay with it seemed like he was trying to cut him off completely, otherwise she’d need to be involved giving him more access to her.

You should have called the police. Although most people who say they'll kill themselves in these circumstances usually don't mean it (they're mainly looking for attention and/or sympathy) a suicide threat should still be taken seriously and the authorities should be notified so they can get the professional help they need. Even if they are just trying for attention or sympathy, they still need said professional help as that is a really fucked up way to go about getting attention/sympathy.

Yes, there is something wrong with that. Cassius sends Kelly a message and she doesn't respond. The proper thing for Cassius to do is to let the matter drop, not continue to send endless texts. That's not going to endear him to Kelly in anyway.

Relationships end for a reason and it's usually not a good idea to get back together with someone you break up with. While people have been known to get back together after they break up and live happily every after, that is rare. Regardless, such reunions happen because both people genuinely wish to get back together. If one is pressured to get back together with an ex, that's just going to result in the relationship ending again, probably in a much messier and worse break up than before.

I am enjoying season 2, so can't agree that it sucks. But I do agree about season 1, I liked it better.

Mind you, this seems to be how Seth McFarland sees relationships as Cassius and Mercer both comment that "drive bys" are expected for breakups and exes on the part of men.

Cassius was dumped the moment that Kelly figured out that he was Kelly from 2 years ago, a needy sponge demanding attention and that Kelly from right now is Ed.

1. Cassius and Kelly's relationship is doomed to repeat the same spiral that Ed and Kellys' did 2 years ago, only this time since she is Ed from two years ago, it's Ed from two years ago who is going to get his heart ripped out by Kelly from 2 years ago, by cheating on Kelly from 2 years from now.

2. Kelly is now Ed. Ed is still Ed. They are soulmates. Simpatico.

3. On a dime Kelly reached these conclusions seconds after Casius mentions that he wants to marry her soon, and then she splits without explaining the dump in more detail.

Another "okay" episode. I have been under-whelmed so far this season. None of the stories have really had any bite or resonance.

Things I liked:
Bortas in general, usually a dick but he had good motivation
Klyden, closed minded a-hole but consistent with his society and how he has been portrayed
The Plant, funny cameo
Talla, proving Klyden was framed even though she hated his personal stance on Locar

Things I didn't like:
Cassius, he was relationship fodder from day one
Locar, brilliant engineer figures out way to fake own death and blame his former lovers new partner. Other than using the shuttles cloak to hide, who couldn't see this coming from a mile away.

I really hope the two-parter coming up gives a good story because they are really in the "sophomore slump" this season.
