THE BAD GIRLS OF THE TREK UNIVERSE

Interesting. I never thought she was an evil character at all. She might have been pitched as the TNG villian of the week, but I felt she was fairly complex. Her line, "People blame the military for the wars that we are asked to fight. But I think it is your kind, Major, that will be the death of us all," put her in a different light for me. She was perhaps a loyal and obedient soldier who will fight when asked but she strikes me as being weary of war and the toll it exacts.

Agreed, I actually found myself sympathising with her predicament of being a conscientious and principled officer tired of being manipulated by others, typically the Tal Shiar but in this case our own Deanna Troi.

Right. In DS9, Dukat wasn't worth his salt as a villain. Weyoun wasn't. In Voyager, the alien from persistence of Vision wasn't, Kashyk neither. In TNG the Cardassian that tortured Picard wasn't, nor Tomalak, Lore, or Kivas Fajo (though I'll agree that the last one was a relatively petty criminal, but still one of the characters with the fewest redeeming features in the entire history of Trek). Harry Mudd from TOS. Those are just a few names that first pop in my mind (arguably, perhaps TNG has the weakest male villains).

I forgot about Kivas Fajo! I agree, Mr Fajo (or Mr. Kivas...who knows?) Is possibly the darkest male character, at least in the TNG era.. He has NO socially redeeming qualities, and though he might have a little "funny factor" (Mudd was funny to the point where he was almost comic relief) I had no qualms about picking up that disruptor myself, and totally annihilating his molecules, inducing as much pain as possible. For me, this is a sign that "bad" is really ... BAD. He was very successful as a Villain, cap. "V". Good catch!

We frequently question just how human Data really was. The bit at the end shook our tree.

I'd classify them as evil, yeah. They openly conspired with Romulans in their plan to take control of the Empire.

The way I define "Evil" would be so very far out of bounds and twisted according to the norms of their society, so I'd say these bad girls could be considered evil, not because they killed (which is fine and dandy to Klingons), but they were beyond traitors for conspiring with Romulans (even by Klingon norms). In human society I can honestly say that Dr. Mengele was evil.

I wonder if even Klingons have limits on killing. Do they draw a limit at killing children, for instance? In season one of TNG a band of rogue Klingons declared they would never kill a child nor hold them hostage. It would be cowardly. The Ferengi follow a strict and complicated code.

Is that guy still around? If they could get him for the Picard Show, it'd be glorious.

On Starrrrrrr Trek: Picarrrrrrrrrd!

Every day's September 19 with him around.
I used to hate those commercials. they'd tell you the entire plot so you didn't have to tune in

In TNG, Ardra would take a lot to beat to be honest! Pretending to be the Devil himself, herself or itself just to get what you want from a fear ridden planet has to be the best scheme ever really from a character with the knowledge of how to do it and get away with it!

I remember saying "turn it off turn it off quick!" So I get you there. Plugging my ears, running from the room, but it's kinda cool to hear it now.
