Episode 2X06 preview

Thanks for posting this. After seeing the preview my hubby and I mused on Saru's situation and the 'lie' he speaks of. How the Great Balance in particular is a lie. Assuming the Baul are a different species (and not just a mature version of the Kelpians):

What if the Baul fear Saru's people as an existential threat? What if the Baul are actually the prey and Saru's kind the true predator in the Great Balance. If they are ever allowed to fully mature naturally, that is. Perhaps that's when their intelligence, agility and strength are enhanced. We've already seen that Saru can sprint at great speeds, has a hell of a kick and can crush communicators with his bare hands. But he's also extremely intelligent and inquisitive. Imagine what his entire race could do if no longer shackled by fear and complacency.

So maybe the big con here is that the Ba'ul have created this whole culling ritual to keep the Baul from realizing their full potential. They are taken and euthanized as soon as they present signs of the next stage of their development. The Ba'ul look creepy and nightmarish. What if it's all smoke and mirrors, the man behind the curtain stuff? An illusion of power. They've cultivated a terrifying mask which helps keep the others submissive and reluctant to resist their fate.

On the other hand, the preview does seem to suggest that the Baul have the capability to destroy Kelpian villages on the planet simultaneously. They do have destructive weapons and technology way more advanced than the Kelpians. Burnham does seem to state they may be about to commit genocide. So perhaps the fear the Kelpians have of the Baul is very justified.

I was one of the people proposing that Ba'ul are the fully mature version of Kelpians. But I like your theory more.

It occurs to me that even if Saru manages to bring this new knowledge about his species to his people, there are those among them, probably his father included, that would reject science in favor of their religious indoctrination. It would fit in with this season’s theme of science vs religion as well as be a reflection a real world happenings as well.

So I apparently haven't been far off the mark in saying that the Kelpians may not be used as a food source by the Ba'ul in the Prime Universe.

They do look creepy though.

The main thing I noticed was all the obelisk-looking ships.

The Ba'ul are the Preservers! You read it here first, folks. :techman:

It will be revealed that Clint Howard is the culprit.

I'm thinking they are just skinny versions of this...

Or maybe they are what ARMUS was referring to when he said "They" shed him off and left him behind.

Well, that certainly looks ... interesting. Will be fun to see how much of the whole Preservers theory gets blown out of the water in this one. At the very least they seem to be consistent with taking design cues from the Preservers obelisk for their ships.

Am I the only one who thinks the Ba‘ul with their arm gestures look somewhat like Doug Jones‘ performance as the Pale Man in ”Pan‘s Labyrinth“? Coincidence? Maybe it is a double role for Jones and/or a sign that the Kelpiens and Ba‘ul are related?

I'm wondering if what we saw in the trailer is what the Ba'ul really look like or just an holographic disguise to make them appear more frightening than they really are...
