"Brother" - bridge name intro scene

Super awkward if she ever gets promoted.
There was a character on the old Beachcombers show (Canadian family-style show that took place in British Columbia) called John Constable. He was an RCMP officer whose rank was... Constable. So he was Constable Constable.

In the first episode, when Pike asks the bridge crew their names (without ranks), why is it that one member of the crew (the cyborg looking thing) still says her rank before her name, while all the others don't? Did anyone else notice this? Seemed a bit odd.

Because Airiam, excuse me Lieutenant Commander Airiam, is a special snowflake who has to have everything her way. The Captain wants to skip formalities like rank and she says "No way. I'm a robot and I have rank." Classic power move.

I'm sick of this show's robophile agenda.

Correct me if I am wrong but it hasn’t been established what exactly she is yet? Even in behind the scenes info?

Loved that moment with Airiam 2.0. Sure, maybe it was only to highlight the “just Saru” shortly thereafter, but I took it as a small hint of her personality. Maybe she's just very precise or her rank really means a lot to her. Or maybe she doesn't trust Pike yet and that's her way of sticking it to him. These little moments do seem to inspire our collective imagination and that's what's cool about them.

She's the only socially savvy member of the bridge bunch, and saw the need for a bit of icebreaking. After her, Bryce felt empowered to add his middle name, something he had dreamed of doing for the past six years but never had worked up the courage to go through with.

Yep, a real Major Major Major Major from Catch 22 thing going on. Perhaps when she became an officer, an administrative error automatically promoted her straight to Lt. Commander Lt. Commander Airiam.
No, she's still a Lieutenant. Her name is Commanderairiam.

I liked that entire scene, and I thought it was interesting that Airiam did not go in for the relaxed protocol. Not everyone is going to adapt well to Pike's change of command style. She seemed to work well with Lorca. Would probably be the one to welcome him back, too.

Maybe she was uncomfortable with the informality, the same way many Europeans are uncomfortable at how quickly Americans go to a first name basis.
This was the sense i got, more uncomfortable with the informality than the breach of protocol.
