"Brother" - bridge name intro scene

MisterZ

Cadet
Newbie
In the first episode, when Pike asks the bridge crew their names (without ranks), why is it that one member of the crew (the cyborg looking thing) still says her rank before her name, while all the others don't? Did anyone else notice this? Seemed a bit odd.

I noticed it, but I figured that if Airiam had just said her name, then the "just Saru" joke would have fallen flat.

I don't know why, but it really annoyed me because there was no logic in it. And if I had been the captain myself and asked people to leave out their rank, and someone still included it, I'd be annoyed as well.

Key to leadership, let people be themselves. You're not dictator for life, you're Captain. Pike is trying to establish a much more collaborative style than Lorca.

Super awkward if she ever gets promoted.
Yep, a real Major Major Major Major from Catch 22 thing going on. Perhaps when she became an officer, an administrative error automatically promoted her straight to Lt. Commander Lt. Commander Airiam.

Or maybe she was just nervous with an unknown, new Captain on board and blurted it out.
(that is if she's at all human)

Perhaps she's an alien that has intensified nervousness emotions.

Oh. Never mind.

^ Do we know why this happened? Did Sara have a problem with the Airiam makeup?

As for why Airiam gave her rank when no one else did: Maybe it didn't have anything to do with her cybernetic enhancements. She could just be a stickler for protocol.
