People have been complaining about the CBSAA app performance, but I've been running it off my XBox One S through a brand new 4k projector, and it looks / streams seamlessly.
I’m subscribed to CBS via Amazon, which is probably the best quality with full 1080p and 5.1 sound. The actual CBS app at the time I briefly had it during the first half of the first season was only 720p and 2.0 sound, has it been upgraded since?

I signed up for CBS all access for the free week. Foolishly, I misjudged when they post episodes of DSC and I was hoping to get at least one more episode drop out of my trial period before cancelling it.
Well, I went to cancel it (thinking I'd re-up for another trial week in a month or so to binge a handful of episodes) and they offered me two free months.
So if you want to watch some DSC for free, give this method a try!

The PS4 app still kinda sucks. It might be 1080p now (I keep going back and forth on whether it seems like it) but the sound is still rough.
That's too bad. The PS4 was also how I tried watching the CBS app back then.
the PS4 app crashed in the late 3rd quarter of the Superbowl for me and came back up a few minutes before the end of the game.
which means I didn't miss anything. but I agree, CBS AA Ps4 app sucks. It's fine on Amazon fire stick.
There is a small contingent who want to validate their dislike for the show somehow by it failing, or appearing to fail. It's a slightly odd mentality both because the history of sci-fi on TV will show that what we like and what hits the required performance indicators to survive are two quite different things, and also it is now clear that Discovery is not 'blocking the way' for more Star Trek they might like - if anything, it's success is opening a door which failure might have slammed shut for another decade.
You think fans would have learned something after NEMESIS and ENTERPRISE tanked. I understand the fear that if a show you don't like turns out very successful that studios would just want more of the same. On the contrary, we should look back on how Trek's success ASSURED more variety. The TOS films made way for TNG. TNG made way for DS9. nuTrek made way for Discovery, and Discovery made way for the Picard spin-off.
Well, we are talking about CBS. Known for taking a successful mold and beating it to death. So I'll wait and see if Discovery's success leads to something different or more of the same.
I would hope a Picard show would be a bit of a contrast to DISCOVERY, in that it neither feels like that show or something from Berman era. It would be neat for CBS to explore many different eras with different shows rather than do what the Berman era did by sticking to the 24th century with three different shows.
We’ll see I suppose.
