Which something they really don't need to do. Spock lived for over a Century, we were privy to only a few hours of his conversations. Few of which offered any reason for him say "I have a sister".

Something they don't need to do, I agree! However, it is something Kurtzman has driven home as a thing that this whole season is meant to explain.

Personally, I'd like Disco to stay in its era, but Calypso does have me a bit enamored with some kind of scenario in which the crew must jump through time, and Discovery takes the long way 'round, waiting for them...

Last episode was actually good, not fantastic, the concept had been done better in other Trek shows, but it was the first time in Discovery there was actual real exploration of a moral/high sci-fi concept and felt legitimately like a great episode.

This episode may be one of the worst episodes of Discovery yet, just atrociously terrible writing across the board, just non-stop clunky exposition, terrible pacing, plot all over the place, writers still don't fucking get S31 at all. (Jesus the Klingons know about it now? Not even most at the top of the federation know about it ffs).

So much of the writing in this episode just seemed in service to push the plot forward, for example, Tilly's reaction to ghost girl is so stupid it's painful and they just randomly pull ghost girl out because oh boy have to have mystery for the rest of the season instead of Tilly just going "What do you even want?".

Seriously, it's just fact this point all the best episodes of Discovery are it's episodic ones, this show just does not work at all as a serialised show and this episode shows why, just clunky, all over the place, poorly written messes designed to be "mysterious". It's clearly JJ Nu-Trek because this show's writing influence is clearly Lost.

As if they're not allowed to say anything positive.

Reviewer: Do I give a negative or positive review?
AICN: Was it made before or after 1994?
Reviewer: After.
AICN: Give it a negative review.
Reviewer: But I kind of liked it...
AICN: Give it a negative review.
Reviewer: Okay.
Herc over at AICN has become a real tool when it comes to this show. Disappointing. That site has done downhill through the years.

Can you imagine how short "Day of the Dove" would have been if the Enterprise could summon forcefields bubbles to trap intruders like that?

The only way that tech works without driving me insane is to assume it's classified force field tech used by Section 31 and other intelligence agents. Because it's just one more example of crap that looks cool to some viewers but was just unnecessary from a narrative and continuity standpoint.

These force field generators can be retconned into the era but it's damn tricky and one more thing about DSC that doesn't need to exist.

It's something we didn't see until Next Gen. Another example of Disco's "let's retcon ALL Trek tech into the pre-TOS period"

And the line about Pike being the only one still using a viewscreen was them hanging a nice big lampshade on it.

I still have a feeling that the writers did that on purpose because even they're coming to realize all these holograms are getting obnoxious and making less and less sense.

Solid 9 for me. Loved this episode. I had a feeling that it was too soon to declare that the “tone” for season 2 overall had changed. The Fed is no longer at war so a lessening of constant tension is expected, but the threat level will continue to rise with each episode, so the dark tone will likely come and go. Love it.

I love the Klingons. They are my favorite Trek aliens. Something about the-melding of honor and treachery that I find more interesting than the oh so perfect Vulcans, logic.

So, we find out that Amanda was a great Vulcan mom but a lousy human one. Imagine half human Spock growing up watching his mother lavish attention and love on his sister but not on him. Going to be really interesting finding out what that did to Spock, not to mention whatever it was Michael did to push him away. No doubt this will be another layer of complexity added to his character.

Wow, L’Rell still in love with Ash/Voq and jealous of his relationship with Michael. I laughed at the Klingon hair comment. Bet the writers did too, considering the upheaval the bald Klingons caused last season. Mary Chieffo nailing it again.

The depiction of Tilly’s fungal infection as an entity with a desperately annoying “personality”, I thought, was a clever twist on the symbiotic entity trope. Also gave us a chance to see those cool looking containment fields.

Ain’t no conspiracy like a Klingon conspiracy, amirite? L’Rell’s lies to the Klingon houses about Ash, baby Ash/Voq, and Kol daddy, was just so...“Klingon”.

The appearance of “Emperor” (thanks for that) Georgiou was great, as usual. She has become one of those characters who can say just about anything without it seeming out of character.

I am intrigued by this red angel storyline. Fact that Spock has been seeing it since he was a child seems really weird. Can’t wait for what comes next.

Yeah the Amanda stuff just hammered home how terrible Sarek and her were as parents. She thinks she did so badly (and I agree, it sounds horrible for Spock) her son has gone on a killing spree in a mental asylum!

Sybok, guys. He's the answer to all of this. ;)

Remember Sybok, CBS? Oh, right. Movie. And not one of the popular ones. Paramount. The IP issues that still need to be resolved and brought under one umbrella. Forget I mentioned him.

I haven't gone through all these posts and I haven't been following pre-release discussions so this has probably been brought up before but L'Rell looks so different from S1. Oddly, there's a Klingon in the background in the beginning that looks more like her than she looks now.

Seeing the skull profile comparisons, I'm beginning to wonder if Klingons carry their children in the backs of their heads.

You might want to check to see what was going on during this era of the Federation. Its not many years removed from Kodos the Executioner. I'll also point out that in the TNG era they weren't even aware that the were Klingons without head ridges, so its not as though what goes on a hundred years before i sby any means common knowledge in the future.
