Good but not spectacular.

I liked the Amanda/Burnham interaction. Amanda was PISSED when Burnham told her that she hurt Spock deliberately. The mother couldn't see the logic, which I bet she will when she calms down. Who knows though. Maybe when the reason comes out, the entire family spurns her and that's why Spock or Sybok never bring up her name. :p

I'm guessing she figured Sarek was right to raise him like they did because they were on Vulcan, and confusing him with yes emotion-no emotion would be bad. But being human, it probably damaged him. Sarek isn't the best father of the year: Sybok, Spock, Michael.

I like L'Rell but the baby business was too soap opera-ish. The rest of the Klingons = Zzzz. And can we drop the Tyler/Burnham romance please. No chemistry whatsoever.

Tilly's spore. WHY didn't she say, "What DO you want?"

Interesting that the spore made her win the race.

I don't know - not sure where the Amanda-Sarek family dynamics are going and not sure I'll like it. But - I'm not bored.

Except by Klingons. Minus L'Rell.

This week’s “Ready Room” episode, it’s an interview with Mary

So Mary says there is still back piece to her make up under all that hair. I guess that makes sense, if the hair flies up or blows away they would need something there so you don’t see human skin and her real hair.

I liked this week's Ready Room more than last week's. Longer, more in-depth interview and some BTS material. I still miss the more diversified content of After Trek.

I hope the Sarek family doesn't disavow Michael. It seems this season is about reuniting sister and brother.

Certainly Amanda was pissed at Michael, but I believe she still cares for her. After all, she kissed her on the cheek. Parents even when their child does bad will still love their child. They just may not speak to them for 18 years. ;)

I didn't buy that. Burnham's description was just too nebulous and thinly sketched for Amanda to proclaim that her daughter has damaged Spock "irreparably." Way to lack empathy, Amanda.

That scene might have worked after some big reveal, but, as written, it didn't square with Jane Wyatt's Amanda at all, IMO.

So far I like this season better than last, but what I hate in any series is writing where someone says something vague and the other person just looks at them meaningfully rather than saying “So what do you mean by that?”

Burnham says she hurt Spock, won’t say how, Amanda asks once then doesn’t ask again, Burnham doesn’t ask what Amanda means by what she says...bleah.. it just turns into an episode of The Bold and the Beautiful where no one says anything, they just stand there exchanging looks

That’s not suspenseful writing, it’s annoying writing

this has nothing to do with anything but I wonder what they did with the AfterTrek table. That thing was awesome and I want to own it

I just had a thought. I think this is the first Klingon Pornstache I've ever seen.

Oh please - DS9 had a number of sub-standard eps in its first 18, like "Move Along Home", "Babel", "If Wishes Were Horses" and hell TNG's first 18 episodes were nothing to hold up as the 'pinnacle of Trek' with crap like "The Naked Now, "Code of Honor", and "Justice"

I could name more... ;)

DS9's first season was the second-worst in the franchise, besides ENT. It's almost completely unwatchable. And DS9 is my second favorite series overall.

It's funny, as Ash and Burnham were awkwardly standing there holochatting, I found myself wondering why anyone would consider that an appealing form of communication. People already use texts to avoid having to talk to other people, much less be seen in full length by them. And why would you want to stand up for a phone call?

Maybe this is why you don't see this form of communication later. It was a fad of the 2250's everyone ended up hating. In all seriousness...it's entirely plausible. It's like the Nextel Phone of Star Trek.

I noticed Mary still pronounces Klingon words the Klingon way even in interviews and such. She says Qo’noS a couple times in the interview, with the ‘sh’ Sound
I wonder if Shazad and Kevin also do that

I was one of the few who liked the reimagined Klingons of season one. The Klingons in this episode were a big step back. Disappointing.

This was the first episode since the appearance of the ship in "Context is for Kings" where there was no exterior shot of the USS Discovery. Not even an establishing shot.

And for the love of Trek...Stamets needs more to do.

Is that Naomi Kyle? What’s she doing there.

What interests me about Burnham/Spock is that we know they're going to talk, even work together later in the season. I assume that implies some kind of reconciliation, unless this is a really depressing story ultimately. In that case, though, that won't explain why Spock never mentioned Burnham, which they seem keen to explain. Is there a piece we don't know yet, something sci-fi? A memory-loss, a jump through time? It's just hard for me to imagine a satisfying end to their story that also includes some version of, "And I hate you so much, I shall never speak of you again."

Maybe she gets erased from the timeline later on? Discovery goes to the Delta Quadrant and is destroyed by a Krenim weapon.
