MLB Offseason 2018-19: SIGN KIMBREL AND KEUCHEL YOU FUCKS

It's all "cost control" bullshit, same reason the Cubs hung on to Russell, simply because he doesn't hit free agency for another three years.

Not sure about cost control, as Arenado looks to be around a $28 million dollar arbitration award this year, and I'm not sure he'll be much cheaper than Machado on a long term deal.

The Yankees may simply like him better. Sometimes that does happen.

I hope the Yankee's don't get either. They already have to many good players. That is why I am also rooting for Machado to go to the White Sox and Bryce Harper to go to the Phillies or Cardinals. I forget which team he might be heading to of those two.

It’s a sad day when Mike Messina is in the Hall of Fame Good.

What fresh hell is this? Mussina is one of the best pitchers of all time. Just going by JAWS, he ranks ahead of noted Hall of Famers Nolan Ryan, Jim Palmer, Bob Feller and Don Drysdale.

His only sin was playing on some really, really, really shitty Orioles teams, the same way Schilling's win totals () were deflated by playing on some truly awful Phillies squads.

A.J. Pollock signs with Dodgers, 4 years/$50 million dollars.

Not a bad haul for a guy who missed roughly half of the games over the last five years.

The 31-year-old Pollock, who ranked No. 4 on our list of top free agents this winter, authored a .257/.316/.484 batting line with 21 home runs in 113 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018. He's played in only 469 of 810 possible games the last five years due to various injuries.

Mussina will be going into the Hall with no logo on his hat.

I was hoping he'd go in as an Oriole, but I completely understand this.

The Yankees left this market when they signed Stanton last year. I'm pretty certain they would have grabbed Harper had they not signed Stanton. Machado, although they courted him for publicity purposes, was never a real consideration.

I'm fairly certain they will be head first in the Trout market if the Angels don't resign him. (I doubt they will)

I listened to him the night he was selected and he couldn't choose.

I think it's the right choice.

Break...

I'm sure you guys have covered all this, but I think this is a great HOF class.

And while there have been many players over the 75-year history of the HOF that should have received a unanimous vote, it couldn't have happened to a classier guy. What's kind of funny here is Mo was a reliever his whole career - historically the writers haven't shown much love for them.

It still amazes me.... 1 pitch.... wow.

Doc is a no-brainer... A Yankee killer I remember...

So glad that Edgar made it. Man what a hitter. Mo said he was his toughest out.

Either way, he was a $30 million dollar a year acquisition.

Let's be fair, though. The Yankees probably spend $30 million a year on Hal Steinbrenner and Randy Levine's dry cleaning. It's not like they're ever hurting for money.

It's all about the salary cap.

No shit, I've been saying that since last year, that the owners got the soft cap they wanted as a PR cudgel because the union is run by fucking worthless morons, starting with Tony Clark. "They're saving money for Machado and Harper," y'all said. "This is a weak free agent class," y'all said back then.

Uh huh. It's collusion, plain and simple.

If the union doesn't strike in 2021, then I hope Marvin Miller's zombie corpse rises from the grave and eats every single leader of the MLBPA.

Speaking of the Messieurs Steinbrenner and basically every other owner, OPEN YOUR FUCKING VAULT, YOU PENIS WRINKLES. PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT IN LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AND THERE ARE MORE THAN A HUNDRED UN-SIGNED FREE AGENTS.
