News Next Arrowverse Crossover to Include Batwoman

During season one of Black Lightning, Supergirl was referred to like a character, not in any way leading audiences to believe she was a real person in that world.

Not if it's set on another Earth in the Arrowverse like Supergirl. That would account for all the real world elements you mentioned in a previous post. As for tone and style, I've never seen it but I imagine that Constantine - which has subsequently been adopted by the Arrowverse was probably different in tone, execution etc from the CW shows.
The following is taken from the Wikipedia entry for the show. I've emboldened notes of interest.

Not at all. Gender is hardwired into your brain at birth. A trans person is just someone whose gender doesn't match the sex they were born as. Genderfluid is when your gender can flow from one side of the spectrum to another.

It has nothing to do with someone magically changing sexes.

 

Yes, that's what I mean. If someone has magical or super-science power to alter their body and they choose to use it to experiment with being a different sex, then that implies they're already flexible about their place on the spectrum.

Turn it around: Start with the premise that a character is genderfluid, and then add magic or technology that lets them transform their bodies however they want. Do you think that a genderfluid person would be willing to use that technology to experiment with changing their physical sex? If not, can you suggest an alternative term that would apply?

I don’t know, they might. I don’t like speaking for other people, especially when I don’t know any and I don’t want to invalidate how they may feel.

 

Batwoman pilot casting news

 

So a few months back we saw "casting sheets" for the Pilot be released online; turns out that fans only correctly predicted 1 of the roles said casting sheets described. Three of them were clearly for Sophie, Luke, and Mary (who is original to the series as far as I can tell), but fans thought that the casting sheet for Sophie was for Renee Montoya and that the casting sheet for Mary was for Bette Kane.

 

Step-sister. Did I miss something? When did Kate get a step-sister in the comics? The article is accompanied by an illustration from a comic, so I'm guessing the step-sister is not purely a creation of the TV show, but I have no memory of this character . . ...

 

She shares the Hamilton surname with Kate's stepmother, so that tracks... but she shares her first name Mary with Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane, Kate's cousin, aka Flamebird or Hawkfire in modern continuity. Maybe they've changed Bette into her stepsister to streamline things.

According to the SuperHeroHype report the character of Mary isn't from the comics.

 

Not to brag, but I'm totally gonna brag that I called that earlier in the thread.

Mary does sound like a substitute for Bette, not sure why they went the step-sister route, except perhaps they didn't want to cause cousin-confusion with the other cousin.

By the way, since this is technically a crossover thread, and we'll undubtedly start hearing more and more about the show itself, I've started a thread for it.

 

None of that means anything for a crossover, if shows like Warehouse 13 & Eureka & Alphas can crossover, and Bones & Sleepy Hollow can crossover, then none of what you are talking about here means we can't get a crossover between Black Lightning & the Arrowverse. The producers can obviously choose not to, but there is nothing in the show itself that prevents a crossover.

 

Law and Order and Cops (a reality show) have crossed over with the X-Files, anything is possible.

 

Supergirl was literally taunting a man (who gave zero indication of not identifying as 100% male) for not doing that. She chastised him for appropriating a male Kryptonian body (some rando called "Superman") instead of her body. Yeah, it was weird.

Anyhow, I watched the Elseworlds special last night.

On the upside, the event is free of the flawed morality, headache-inducing endless gunfire, and countless petty villain squabbles of the fetid Earth-X crossover. The three episodes are, on the whole, more pleasant than not, even for a lapsed Arrowverse fan and non-comics guy such as myself. The downside, however, is that there's really no story here, just a bunch of random events and setups for this fall's mega-crisis, so the whole thing ends up feeling a bit pointless. Once again, I don't foresee any future rewatching.

This was my first time seeing Tyler Hoechlin's Clark/Superman outside of a brief YouTube clip, and while he doesn't have the je ne sais quoi screen presence of Henry Cavill, he makes for a perfectly satisfying TV-sized Man of Steel. Ruby Rose's Batwoman, meanwhile, is... there. After years of anonymous Vancouver location shooting, the brief glimpses of Chicago-as-Gotham make a bigger impression than she does.

Now that Logan and that one Avenger have been killed in action, and given the vague setup with the Monitor here, I gotta wonder if Oliver, too, will die in this fall's Crisis. It might be awkward for Arrow to lose its lead halfway through the season, but we already know it'll be its last, and there's always flashbacks to keep Amell around. On the other hand, maybe it'd be a boon to the season's story.

Anyhow, here's hoping the Crisis finally manages to tell something like a self-contained, inherently satisfying story that spends an absolute minimum of time on secondary characters. I doubt that'll actually happen; though, it'll probably be more of the endless fan-service same. Which isn't a terrible thing to be by any means, but it's not my cup of milkshake, either.
