I loved Ace Combat 6, the story flowed and the levels were fun. I loved it so much that I would play it over and over again. I was excited when I picked up Ace Combat 7, hoping it would be just as good or even better than AC6. Well so far I am bored with it. AC6 story flowed and was easy to follow and the missions were fun. So far AC7 is a mess, to me. The story is all over the place and after 5 missions I am pretty much tuning out the story and just want to play the game.

So far the levels are no where near as fun as the AC6 levels. In AC6 we had multiple objectives and tons of enemies to shoot and maneuver against, nor was there a time limit. So far in AC7, the few ground missions I have played, were not very thrilling, not many enemies laying around. Nothing is ever explained and when you have to protect an ally half the time you are searching around for just who the heck you have to protect.

I am not impressed with this latest effort in AC series. It seems like they wanted to make a "Cooler game", but in the end just made a mess that is not fun.

I played the original Air Combat (as it was known in Europe), so what I'm saying is I was into this before it was cool

seriously though, the last one I played was AC4 on PS2, since then they appear to have doubled down on the idea of going completely bonkers with the story, which I appreciate - if I had the time, I would check it out

AC6 was the first one I played and fell in love with the series. I then played AC Assault Horizons and fell out of love with it. I had high hopes for AC7, but it is not very good at all. I just sold my copy because the game is just so convoluted and tedious. In AC6 most of the levels were fun and you could take your time to finish and you had tons of weapons to use. In this one a lot of the levels have a time limit or something that needs to be done and if time runs out the mission ends and you have to start all over again. You also will run out of missiles fast and just be down to your machine guns although your primary weapon will replenish after awhile with only two missiles. Another thing is you are constantly dodging other missiles being thrown at you so as time is running down and you are trying to complete a mission you can't maintain lock on because you have to dodge a missile because you also ran out of flares.

okay, that sounds like a dealbreaker to me, I definitely enjoyed taking my time with missions when I played these games

of course it's not "realistic", but that's not what these games are for! they're (supposed to be) Arcade-y action games featuring cool fighter jets

I've been a fan of the series since the original -- was the first PSX game I ever own. Have owned them all since. Ace Combat 5 is unquestionably my favorite game of all time. I haven't played this since I was expecting to get the PC version - which hasn't dropped yet, anyway. But I know my current potato won't come up. I was going to build a new one over Christmas in preparation, but I had some emergency finances stuff, so it's probably going to be a year before I can afford to do it. Oh well.

That said, everyone I've talked in the community (whose opinions I trust) is raving about it, saying it's the best since the golden PS2 trilogy. But then, the community at large (myself included) find AC6 to be middling and dull and Assult Horizon to be hot trash. YMMV.

And the nonsensical convoluted wackadoodle stories are what they're all about. They're supposed to be GUNDAM with fighter jets, even sharing a few of the same writers. Of course, the most wackadoodle of them all was the third one. It's so insane that the story was taken out of the game for the west, and we just got the missions. (But they kept the non sequitur in-mission chatter.)

Well they're 'simcade.' Basically the Gran Turismo of fighter jets.
