Mirror Universe Versions of TOS Episodes

I did these for fun a few years ago while working on my TOS Chronology. I got to wondering how the events of TOS would have gone in the Mirror Universe. I personally find it fun to imagine that the MU crew of the I.S.S. Enterprise had dark, twisted versions of the adventures we saw on TV every week. I skipped a few episodes here & there, when an evil version of the plot didn't immediately suggest itself to me. And yeah, I included several episodes that happened or aired after "Mirror, Mirror," but I still included them because I thought it'd be fun.

Here they are...

THE CAGE
Captain Christopher Pike escapes from Talos IV by using his aggressive emotions to overcome the Talosians.

James T. Kirk plunders the laboratory of an unknown alien scientist and obtains the Tantalus Field Device, capable of wiping someone out of existence by the touch of a button.

James T. Kirk’s enemies develop a sudden and mysterious habit of “disappearing.”

James T. Kirk becomes Captain of the I.S.S. Enterprise through the assassination of Captain Christopher Pike with the Tantalus Field Device.

In his first action as Enterprise captain, Kirk suppresses the Gorlan uprising through the destruction of the rebels’ home planet.

Captain Kirk executes 5000 colonists on Vega IX.

WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE
Stardate 1312.4 – 1313.8

Captain Kirk kills his old friend Gary Mitchell when Mitchell begins exhibiting powers, leaving his body to decay on the remote planetoid of Delta Vega.

THE CORBOMITE MANUEVER
Stardate 1512.2 – 1514.1

Upon discovering that the real Balok is a harmless child, Enterprise crewman Bailey slaughters him, claiming his advanced ship as property of the Empire.

MUDD’S WOMEN
Stardate 1329.8 – 1330.1

The Enterprise encounters interstellar drug dealer and pimp Harry Mudd, on his way with prostitutes to service the miners of Rigel XII. Kirk forces Mudd to grant him all his past and future profits from the Venus drug and prostitution ring.

THE ENEMY WITHIN
Stardate 1672.1 – 1673.1

A transporter accident splits Captain Kirk into his good and evil halves. Kirk is repulsed to realize that his good qualities are part of what make him an effective starship commander.

CHARLIE X
Stardate 1533.6 – 1535.8

Captain Kirk gives his Captain’s Woman Janice Rand to the telekinetic Charlie Evans to be his new plaything.

BALANCE OF TERROR
Stardate 1709.2

After luring a Romulan Commander into thinking of him as a friend, Captain Kirk ruthlessly slaughters a Romulan ship armed with a cloaking device.

DAGGER OF THE MIND
Stardate 2715.1

Kirk journeys to Tantalus V and exposes Dr. Tristan Adams to his own neural neutralizer in order to prevent discovery of the Tantalus Field Device. Mr. Spock mind melds with Dr. Simon Van Gelder, driving him incurably insane.

COURT MARTIAL
Stardate 2947.3

Captain Kirk is accused of unnecessarily sparing the life of Lt. Commander Ben Finney.

THE MENAGERIE
Stardate 3012.4

When Commodore Mendez of Starbase 11 begins to suspect the true fate of Captain Christopher Pike, the Enterprise lures Mendez to the forbidden planet of Talos IV. Kirk protects his command by exposing the Commodore to crippling Delta Rays and stranding him on the planet’s surface.

ARENA
Stardate 3045.6

Captain Kirk combats a Gorn captain on Cestus III when the Gorn retaliate for Empire incursion into their territory. Kirk slays the Gorn captain through guile and treachery, proving to the alien Metrons that mankind is still a dangerously savage race.

THIS SIDE OF PARADISE
Stardate 3417.3

The Enterprise crew is mind-controlled by the colonists of Omicron Ceti III, making them peaceful and docile.

THE DEVIL IN THE DARK
Stardate 3196.1

Kirk and Spock slaughter the Horta’s egg chamber on the mining planet Janus VI, forcing the entire Horta race into extinction.

THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER

When a mutinous Dr. McCoy attempts to escape the ship, the Enterprise crew discovers the Guardian of Forever, a time portal on an unknown planet.

Spock’s father Emperor Sarek is the victim of an assassination attempt.

The Enterprise begins supplying flintlocks to the once-peaceful villagers of Tyree’s planet, encouraging them to make war with their neighbors.

Captain Kirk murders Ensign Garrovick to suppress the evidence of Kirk’s part in the destruction of the I.S.S. Farragut.

A PIECE OF THE ACTION

Setting himself up as the new “Boss of Bosses”, Captain Kirk demands a cut of the profits from the rival gangsters on Sigma Iotia II.

SPECTRE OF THE GUN

The Enterprise crew is forced into a recreation of the gunfight at the OK Corral, playing the roles of Wyatt Earp and his men.

THE DAY OF THE DOVE

The Enterprise crew’s warlike urges are drained by mysterious space creature.

Between TOS and TMP
Dr. Leonard H. McCoy is sentenced to an Empire penal colony.

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
Kirk retakes command of the I.S.S. Enterprise, trapping Enterprise Captain Matt Decker within the exploding V’Ger.

Kirk and his crew begin a second 5-Year Mission of conquest.

STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY
The U.S.S. Excelsior destroys the Klingon moon Praxis, successfully sabotaging the Klingons’ key energy production facility. The Klingon Empire is brought to its knees and the terms of Klingons’ surrender are dictated on the U.S.S. Enterprise.

I might come back to this list at some point. It's fun trying to come up with the most evil and twisted versions possible for TOS episodes. Anyone have any suggestions for others?

It wasn't sparing his life, but rather the risk to the ship, that bright the court martial.

The Enterprise is caught by Apollo. Kirk, Scott, Chekov and new captain's woman, Palmer beam down. Kirk buys time by ordering Palmer to seduce and assassinate Apollo. After the assassination attempt fails, he remembers why the gods left Earth due to their human rebellion. He returns to kill the rest of landing party, but Spock breaks through the force field and kills Apollo.

Well, that directly contradicts the MU service record we hear for Kirk in "Mirror, Mirror." Kirk asks the computer to read the record of his counterpart's command, and the computer says that MU Kirk became Captain of the Enterprise through the assassination of Captain Christopher Pike.

That's one of the few entries I didn't make up.

It wasn't sparing his life, but rather the risk to the ship, that bright the court martial.

Eh, I don't see an organization as bloodthirsty and callous as the Empire worrying about risk to the ship. But Kirk sparing the life of someone he could've easily killed instead... I could see them getting outraged about that. Plus, it's more of a reversal of the real episode.

Third season episode. I don't watch those nearly as much, so I didn't have too many ideas for them.

You're thinking of "Who Mourns For Adonais?"

And I don't see Kirk having another Captain's Woman so soon before "Mirror, Mirror." He and Marlena have to have been together long enough for their relationship to have grown a little stale, as seen in the episode. In my mind, Marlena became the Captain's Woman after Kirk turned Janice Rand over to Charlie Evans. That gives Kirk & Marlena at least a year together before the events of "Mirror, Mirror."

Okay, Palmer is a free agent. Maybe Scotty wanted Palmer but we see her leading him on then rejecting him with cruel insults (a la Uhura to Sulu).

Whom Gods Destroy:
Kirk visits his old mentor that taught him how best to kill to get ahead, Garth, who is insane. Garth captures Kirk with plans to take over the Empire using his shape changing ability and a new explosive he got from another inmate. During the two-Kirk fight, Spock sees his opportunity to kill Kirk. He kills the loser whom he incorrectly assumed would be the real Kirk; he inadvertently saves Kirk's life.

I figure that the Empire has to have some rules about assassinating crewmen and especially superior officers; otherwise it would fall into complete anarchy. The ST script search site seems to be down at the moment, but as I recall, Chekov says something like "No one will question the assassination of a Captain who disobeyed the orders of the Empire" when he's attempting to kill Kirk. That tells me that there is some sort of procedure and protocol with murdering officers in the Mirror Universe version of Starfleet.
