How did you get into reading Trek novels?

Oh, T'Ryssa Chen is one of the "new recurring characters" I really liked from the beginning (unlike Miranda Kadohata and this unbearable vulcan counselor).
Yes, it's not only, that Ensign Stiles was such a bad character. The story was just written so bad. All this whining.... just pathetic.

Maybe I will like the next VOY-novels more. They really do have some good point, but especially Eternal Tide was SOOOO exaggerated and unrealistic with the Omega-Continuum (the search for Eden's origins really started good).
I just have the feeling, these books are filled with so much unimportant and uninteresting stuff. I'm 70 pages in the next novel, and nothing really has happened except the funeral and long discussions, if Janeway will get her command (of the fleet) and if the fleet's mission will continue (yes, I'm absolutely sure, both will happen).

As to TOS novels: I tend to like the ones other readers described as tedious. TOS novels that are commonly liked well I tend to find boring.

T'Lana was not likeable, but she certainly didn't deserve to die. She had no chemistry with Picard. Picard on the other hand has a knack for difficult character. It would have been interesting to see if there could have been a rapport between him and T'Lana in later novels. Leybenzon was most insufferable. Almost like Ensign Stiles from Red Sector.

Interesting idea. ;)
Tell me some you liked or didn't like. Let's see, if our preferences are as different as with the VOY novels :D

A really bad TOS novel (in my opinion) was "#72 V. E. Mitchell Tore auf einer toten Welt / Windows on a Lost World" and "#60 Barbara Hambly Der Kampf ums nackte Überleben / Ghost-Walker"
while I really liked "#26 Margaret Wander Bonanno Geiseln für den Frieden / Dwellers in the Crucible" or "#78 A. C. Crispin Sarek".

Der Kampf ums nacke Überleben was really bad. I disliked also The Shocks of Adversity and How Much for Just the Planet and the Final Reflection. The last book was so boring I didn't finish it and gave it away to a friend.

I liked Allegiance in Exile (Sulu novel) and The Folded World. TOS novels commonly disliked.

Great were: Foul Deeds Will Rise, Child of Two Worlds and Cast No Shadow.

Personal Highlight: The Terok Nor novels (Lost Era): Day of the Vipers, Night of the Wolves, Dawn of the Eagles. With great covers.

" Der Kampf ums nackte Überleben "

ok, I'm going to need a literal translation of that one since it looks like"the struggle to survive naked people" to me and Google.

I liked Ghost-Walker quite a bit. I also enjoyed Hambly's Crossroads.

I have to agree with you about The Final Reflection. I think I would have liked it more without the TOS characters.

I also agree with you about the Terok Nor novels. I loved the first one, but I also think the next two are quite good. I don't think the later books are very popular, but I like 'em.

Have you guys read Troublesome Minds? It's a very good 5YM book, imo.

I've read Troublesome Minds. I can hardly remember any details except that it was neither the best nor the worst TOS novel I've read.
The Struggle to Survive Naked People sounds great. It reminds me of surviving German trash TV with naked people/celebrities on desert islands etc. :D. @Jinn and @StefanM, What do you think?
We really should take German Trek book titles into Google Translate.

:D :D :D
I remember reading this terrible book "Der Kampf ums nackte Überleben" / "Ghost-walker", when I was driving to university by train. Another student seriously asked me, if it was porn :D

@marlboro:
The right translation would be something like "The battle for pure survival" ;)

If the guy sitting next to you on the train looks at a book cover like this and asks you if it is porn, it's time to switch seats. And maybe time to think about buying a car.

I guess the key word was "nackt" (naked). That's what the guy saw and he reacted. Too eager, if you don't mind my saying so. Kirk and fellow on this pic are quite overdressed for a porn. :D

No, not a guy. A female student. Antonia, if I remember right ;)
I'm sure, shw just read about "naked" and didn't look at the cover.

Kilana: You really watched "Adam sucht Eva"? :O From what I saw, it became worse from season to season.

About the novel "The Final Reflection": It ws among the first 5 books I read. And back then I really liked it. No idea, if I would still like it, if I read it today. But I still have good memories of it.

On the other hand, there is no visual evidence that they are wearing pants.

I didn't watch that trash. Problem was: I was confronted with it when I was channel-surfing. And RTL overly promoted it. I'm not a fan of FKK (Frei Körper Kultur = nudity) on TV.

There one was a German mascot (Goleo, during the FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006) and it never wore any pants. It was stuff for discussion.
I guess there are enough Trek aliens who don't wear any pants either.

I'm always nude - underneath my clothes.... ;)

What would you do if you were invited to a Betazoid wedding? I can only speak for myself: I would go to the gym and enhance my workout - this is what Picard would do.

Used to watch TOS after school when it aired on NBC in the late 80s or early 90s. Saw a Trek book at a yard sale and gave it a shot. Dreams of the Raven was the book. From there, collected them all between new purchases and lots of used book stores. Used to have a list of the numbered ones with which I still needed so I could fill them all in.

Which ones are your favorites?
