Just posted my review of this novel (the English translation, it should be noted). I really enjoyed it! A great introduction into a new corner of Trek Lit. I've since read book 2 as well and we covered it on Literary Treks, I'm just working to get caught up on the reviews on my site.

Good stuff! Looking forward to book 3 later in the year!

I just finished Star Trek: Prometheus: Fire with Fire. I wasn't certain what to expect from this series when I started it. I mean, I've never read a non-English written Star Trek novel. I'd never heard of the authors. They're not part of the wonderful set of authors that I've grown accustomed to over the past several years. How good will the translation be? All of these thoughts and concerns were rattling away in my head as I started, but I have to say, as I read more and more, all of these thoughts and concerns were quickly laid to rest. Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg are definitely part of the greater Star Trek literary family family now, as far as I'm concerned. I thoroughly enjoyed this first novel. The translation was spot on and the story was very engaging. Now that I've finished, I'm anxious to read on more of the adventures of the Prometheus and the Bortas and their crews and to learn more of the mystery of the Lembatta Cluster. I'm fairly certain, by the time I finish this trilogy, I'll be chomping at the bit for more tales of the Prometheus.

Thank you to Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg, the authors of this wonderful series. Thank you to Helga Parmiter for such an excellent translation. Welcome to the Star Trek literary family. I look forward to reading any future novels we're lucky enough to see from you. Now, on to The Root of All Rage.

It's Christian Humberg.
Yes, they wrote a trilogy that fits in well into the Trekverse. You should also mention KRAD who did the editing.
Unfortunately there won't be any other Prometheus novels. They were something special for the German fans as part of the 50th annniversary.

Thanks for catching my typo. And since I copy/pasted, I messed up twice. I've corrected.

Also, thanks to KRAD for the editing. You weren't credited in the novels anywhere that I could see, but I appreciate your efforts. For that matter, I'd love to see your full-blown return to Star Trek fiction in the near future, but I'll take whatever I can get and will be happy for it.

I hate the thought that there may not be any more Prometheus novels, but I'm going to enjoy these while I have them.

That's the best you can do. And Bernd Perplies is around, at least sometimes. Your praise will be duly appreciated.

@bfollowell Thank you so much for your kind words. It's so exciting to hear that our trilogy is appreciated not only by readers in Germany but in the whole world. We really tried to make it fit in the ongoing Pocket books continuity. And truth be told, I would love to write another Prometheus novel, but this project was extremely expensive for Cross Cult (paying a hefty licence fee, the authors and the translator), so it is not very likely. But one can hope!

@KRAD You weren't the only one surprised. Titan books forgot to mention Helga Parmiter and Cross Cult too in the first novel. Looking at the first page you might even think it is an original work, written in English by Christian an me for Titan. I don't know how they managed to forget everyone except the authors.

Hopefully some characters might guest star in future novels.
I'd love to see that happen. :)

Unfortunately, Prometheus seems to be his only novels translated into english :( Maybe in the future? Or just learn German ;)
Well ... in fact there might be an opportunity to read more from me in English in 2020. I'm not allowed to say more at the moment. But you will be among the first to know as soon as the publishing house makes its announcement.

Also, if you are interested in reading more from me in English and you perhaps know someone in the publishing industry: just let them know. Most of the English rights to my novels are available. ;) You can find the complete list of my novels here: https://www.bernd-perplies.de/buchprojekte-thematisch.htm (@StefanM Your link just shows the new ones.)

Sheesh. What's especially funny is that I was told by the folks at Cross Cult was that part of the reason for hiring me in particular was to be able to use my name recognition as a Trek novelist as part of promoting the book to an American audience.

Then again, I haven't written a Trek novel in a decade, so maybe not.......... *sigh*

And as far as I know they told everyone about it, because they - we - were really happy to have you onboard. Then again the book was mostly promoted by Titan Books, so it is my guess that part about you was lost in communication from Germany to England or from the editor to the production department at Titan. I'm just one of the authors, so my knowledge about these things is pretty limited.

Spending so much time on this board, I was so confused when I picked my copy of Fire With Fire in the U.S. only to find no mention of any background details I had been hearing about for years.
