That could be interesting. The only prequel stuff I read about Kirk was in Enterprise: The First Adventure which was really unsatisfying and I bet this will be better. Especially with @Christopher writing it.
Chris mentioned it in a radio interview not long ago, which I transcribed naturally:
There was a brief, very very brief mention, in one of the pilot episodes, or one of the first episodes they made, of the command that Captain Kirk had before the starship Enterprise, and the book from 1968, The Making of Star Trek [...] it said that Kirk's first command was a destroyer equivalent, meaning a smaller ship than the Enterprise, which was sort of the equivalent of a really big carrier or battlecruiser sort of thing. And we've seen nothing onscreen, what's called the canon, about that earlier command, and it's hardly ever been explored in books, so wanted to really get into that, what Kirk did before the Enterprise.
Excited for this one, as I have enjoyed all John's books so far, but mostly because I love Captain Pike, will be great to get to spend some time on the Disco version of his Enterprise!
For everyone's view:
On the ones marketed as The Original Series, of course. Discovery novels, when they eventually deviate from generic cast photos, will surely use the Disco version.
I kind of hope The Captain's Oath get updated before publication with whatever ship Kirk is commanding in that book though!
Good thing I don’t judge books by their covers, because I find both of those, quite frankly, terrible. I’ve seen better covers on self-published Kindle books. Maybe these will look better as a 1-inch thumbnail on Amazon.For everyone's view:
