Things that frustrate us all

^ probably so. I am going to give it a few more days and then buy the cheapo replacement, regardless of what hubby says. Hubby just spent $ 70 bucks on a board game; I think I can spend $25 bucks on an mp3 player.

If not you can always hit him over the head with his board game.:guffaw:

As for buying your "cheap music player" on Amazon, the way my luck runs, I'd order your replacement and while you're waiting for it to arrive, your missing one will turn up.

That has happened to me at least twice, but it practically garauntees you'll find your missing player.

That’s good, though, because then there’s a spare readily available if the original ever goes missing again!

My laptop just froze... third time it's done this. I think the other two have to do with Windows update... but this one seems to be Avast related. So angry I could scream. :brickwall: :scream:

Ran into two BSOD's this year too, one in February and one just recently.

I've more than had it with this crap.

I know you won't hear differently, but given how often you run into these issues, I suspect you have some Hardware issues or you're expecting your laptop to do things it's not designed for or, most likely, your laptop ain't that good.

What are is the configuration of your system? And when you say freeze, is a short period of time or much longer than 15 > 30 seconds.

I believe they mentioned that their laptop was old and software was no longer supporting the outdated technology.

Unfortunately, this is a reality, just like no company supports 8-track cassettes anymore (or the reverse).

I can't criticize, though...getting something newer can either be beyond some people's capabilities or there may be a piece of software that is no longer supported on newer operating systems that a person cannot live without. There are many reasons.

That said, I need Windows XP for one of my laptops, but I only have one use for that laptop and it NEVER sees the Internet or gets ANY updates because I need a specific feature of that laptop (yes, I have two laptops because one was given to me and has essentially gone ignored the entire time I've had it and the other was needed for its specific purpose).

same here: I have an old machine with ME on it. It included the best photo editing software I've ever encountered and I still use it quite frequently but keep it isolated from the internet.
At work I use Win 10 (a nightmare!) and at my parents I have a laptop with gnome linux (a pleasantly slim OS, ideal for old laptops with little capacity).

As a general rule, with every Win-version I think things can't get worse (i.e. less user friendly) but Microsoft keeps surprising me with their next version... I want Win 98 back!

I don't mind the general Win10 experience, but I do hate that they're hiding access to what I consider vital controllability and downright removing some.

I haven't used a Mac since the G3, but it feels like Windows is moving in that direction to make EVERYTHING completely plug-&-play and taking away the rights to change things for those that know (or think they know) what they're doing.

I could do without the bluescreens.

We can question the direction MS chose for win10 - honestly it;s still a weird mix of oldschool desktop and modern touchscreen-friendly, and god knows what data it's hoovering up and sending to microsoft HQ. But XP and 7 were both far superior to 9x.

I got a call from my bank today saying checking balance was in the negative, and when I signed on to look, it was because my landlord forgot to cash the October rent check so he cashed both at the same time.

Had more than enough in my savings of course to cover it but a little pissed he did that without telling me, since I keep most of my money in investment accounts. Need to check this didn’t affect my credit at all.

Almost nobody balances their accounts anymore as it's all online now and instantly available. Maybe we should get back into that habit as this has happened to be far too many times than I'd like to admit (not large payments like rent, but smaller, <$200 payments.).

Pisses me off when it happens, though!

My brother had one seller my brother paid not cash in the payment for almost a YEAR and it was something close to $1000 US.

For me, Avast has been a pig this week. It just updated last night and keep stopping various other programs from working (and the soundcard).

I got rid of it to try something else (which stopped any secure website from working - and the suggested fix on the suppliers website didn't seem to work with Firefox).

Now I'm on my third antivirus software of the week. Seems ok so far, but then Avast had been fine for a few years:(

Ugh. AV is always notorious for screwing with normal operations! :(

Not AV, but I had an on-screen keyboard program disable my delete key, of all things.

...And there's my package being dropped off on my front steps when the address clearly states: "Please deliver to side door."

Every. Freaking. Time.

I have the same problem with ad papers. I put the sign "no advertisement" on my mailbox which legally forbids anyone to put ad papers in it! Still, some A-Holes do it anyway. So far they've been lucky enough that I wasn't around but if I ever see one I'll film him (Maybe i'll be more hesitant if it's a "her") with my phone and sue him on that basis. I swear I'll make him regret not obeying the law!

I got rather annoyed this Christmas season, as Amazon kept telling me my packages "had been handed to a person directly"--only to go find it crammed in our mailbox or dumped on our front path. Just put "delivered," for God's sake.

Yea but it's usually Windows that does it. Sometimes AV does it in regards to having the disk being at 100% too much.

Dang that's strange. O_o

Wow. That's horrible. It just sounds as if they're getting worse and worse, just like Windows.

Same here. I liked Avast for a long time, but I'm looking into a new one (anything but Avira though, that f'd up my mom's laptop some time ago).

If an mp3 player makes you happy on an every day basis I think you should buy a new one no matter what.

I loved ME!

Absolutely.

I loved ME!

"I'm all celebrating Windows ME."

Sorry, stupid Deadpool reference that's probably far less clever than what I had in my mind.

I know of no one else with experience in ME that actually liked it. Glad someone did! :techman:

I have found my old Nexus phone, so I'm going to try to charge it up and use it as an MP3 player. We'll see how that works. I'm glad I saved the old charger for it.

One thing that annoys me today: no one at work has any questions for me until I announce I'm going to lunch.
