Which of these dramatic TOS Movie Scenes is your favorite?

I don't mean "which scene comes from your favorite movie," so try to look at the scene in a bubble. Also, I'm not suggesting that these are the best scenes...(for example, I didn't even include the Spock's Death scene from TWOK). It's just a collection of good dramatic (not action) scenes that I'd like to gauge people's thoughts on.

I love all the Shakespear references in TUC.
But the most intense scene was certainly Kirk mourning his son.

In the Dining on Ashes scene, Spock says:
Spock: Is it possible that we two, you and I, have grown so old and so inflexible that we have outlived our usefulness? Would that constitute a joke?
This one line about growing old sums up the theme of the movie and the characters' lives at this point, after all, this was their last adventure for the characters and last movie for the actors working together. It now has new meaning in my own life since I retired about 3 years ago, and even though I go back part-time on occasions, I find most things have changed and people have moved on so that any value I bring to the job fades more every day. But the movie ends in high adventure with our heroes winning again with hope for a better future.

I had to go with a tie between "Klingon Bastards" and the scene where David tells Kirk he's proud to be his son.

I think the latter scene in TWOK gets lost in all the greatness in that movie. It's a really good scene...and Shatner plays it brilliantly. It's more poignant to me now that I'm older and a father of two boys as well.

Yeah, but having to deal with the Klingons being the killers of his son became a guiding thread in Kirk's life from the moment he got the word of David being murdered. Saavik's delivery of the news was unemotional as it is was to be expected. Nonetheless another dramatic moment to me.

It's gotta be Shatner's outstanding portrayal of grief in TSFS. Say what you will about him sometimes, but he completely nailed that scene. I feel like life dealt Kirk another in a series of punches. First Spock, now David, and soon of course, the Enterprise. You don't always go off on the next adventure with a laugh on the bridge. The emotional weight of it all always hits me when Shatner misses the chair, whether intentional or not.

Not an option, but in TSFS when Kirk takes his uniform jacket off and places it over David's body. The camera pans to Bones, and then to Scotty. No one says a word.

All of these are good choices, but I'm going to have to go with "Very proud to be your son".

"I need my pain!" and "Klingon bastard, you killed son", in particular, give it some very stiff competition. I can't not mention them.

TSFS was the first ST movie I owned and had the chance to watch many times; and I agree that Kirk's grief is quite a strong dramatic moment. Plentode makes a nice case for how it's more impactful given the context of what's happened to Kirk so recently, and what's about to happen. Add in the melancholy of the Vonda McIntyre's novelizations of those events, it's very heavy stuff. But it's so familiar to me, word for word.

I recently watched through all of TOS, the animated series, and the movies; and even though I know the OP is looking for comments about the scene in a bubble, one scene was more prominent this time around because of context. The scene from TMP where Spock talks to Kirk about how he's found a new perspective was more impactful after everything that I had watched before. I understood the significance of it better, and felt relief and joy for Spock being able to accept himself for who he is, and stop punishing himself.

I don't mind giving TFF credit for some worthwhile dramatic moments, too. I like the whole scene that leads up to "I need my pain". The campfire scene is nice, too, I've always liked that one.

I think I have to agree with this. Both great scenes, with some of the best acting of Shatner's career in both.

It was hard for me not to pick the "Need my pain" scene, but these scenes involving Kirk's son have really been elevated to greatness in my mind given my own life experiences...great stuff!

There is probably no greater pain than for a parent to lose their child. And this was especially tragic because he had just reconnected with his son. That made the grief all the worse because of all the lost years, and now there will be no more chances.

Yeah, no doubt. He was up and down during the series and he was fine in TMP and TVH for the most part (but he was better in II and III I agree). The wheels really came off in V, VI and Generations. He sort of gets a pass for VI because it was a highly regarded movie in general, and his role in Generations was somewhat limited. It's like when he finally got to direct a movie he lost all his inhibitions .

I think TFF was a mixed bag. He was GREAT in some scenes like everything in the observation room (Spock's "Sybok data dump," secret pain scene, and post climax wrap-up)...and hammy in others (aboard the shuttlecraft, in the brig, El Capitain), so this film is probably the best representation of his TOS performances (ups and downs) quite honestly.

TUC was my least-favorite, because everything in that whole movie just felt like a big wink-and-smile at the audience. Nothing felt legitimately dramatic.

GEN was odd, because it was Kirk as written by the TNG writers...so it felt off a lot (Scotty spouting TNG levels of technobabble always takes me right out of it). Shatner's performance with Picard on horseback in the Nexus was great though, and I (unlike many) LOVED how he played the death scene.
