Surely something good happened to you today

This is a 6-inch Mitchell-to-Mitchell camera riser. It lifts the Mitchell mount camera head if the sticks or dolly you're using isn't tall enough.

Anyway, this image gives me validation.

In about 2000 I was working for a lighting equipment rental company (which I just found out closed last Sept) and I made a 6-inch Mitchell riser in my garage. I presented it to my boss to see if he'd buy it and add it to their inventory. He questioned the strength of my riser because it only had three riser posts whereas all other risers out there had four. I'll tell ya, getting the mounting nut onto the threads with four posts is a pain in the ass. So mine had three, I assured him it would be just fine (1-inch solid round aluminum rod and 1-inch-thick aluminum plates are not going to be bending in these cases). He hmmed and hawed about it for a while and finally bought it from me.

Then today I see the above image. It's from Matthews Studio Equipment, which is, I believe, the largest grip equipment company in America.

It made me happy.

I was freaking out because my Spacemouse was scheduled to be delivered today and then I saw that it shipped UPS. UPS generally doesn't deliver on Saturdays and to add to my frustration, when I checked the UPS tracking number most of the day yesterday the tracking said that that number didn't exist.

Late last night I checked again and it was finally in the system as being Next Day Air and Saturday Delivery. Woohoo!

What's even better is that it's scheduled to be here by noon. Most of the time we're the very last street on our UPS driver's route and we need to wait until the very end of the day to get our packages.

I can't wait to try this thing out!

Hardly a "professional" light, but I found an LED video light panel that's app-controlled and runs on AC or battery for only $57 and change. Bi-color, so it operates at 3200K or 5600K (actually, adjustable from 2300K to 6800K and dimmable. Supposedly flicker-free, too.

I found part of what I was looking for in my basement:

Baby_Spuds.jpg

They're 10 baby spuds for film lights. It's a 5/8-inch stud that fits in the stand receptacle (yoke) of most smaller movie lights. I added a 1/2-20 thread into the base so I could create my own light mounts. This was in the early 2000s. I turned them on the Atlas/Craftsman metal lathe I used to own from aluminum hex rod stock.

The parts I can't find yet are called spud adapters, which has this type of stud on the top and a junior stud on the bottom (1-1/4-inch stud for junior light stands). I think I made two or three of those. They're normally steel but I made mine from aluminum as most baby lights would never, ever, ever bend the 5/8-inch spud).

Oh, the spud adapters are "lovingly" known as "butt plugs" in the industry.

Got some walking done, got a 10km egg from a Gym in Pokemon Go along with some items and a gift, also was able to battle and take over said Gym for a bit and got 10 coins thanks to my Ursaring defending it.

My drawer slides finally shipped and will be here Wednesday. At last, I can get started on remodeling my hall closet with pull-out shelves and tambour doors.

Sorry. I need to add one.

For years I've been trying to remember what the name of a retailer that had a local store. I knew that eventually, that location became a store called "Best", but I could not, for the life of me, figure out what it was previously.

Even though I had the Internet at my fingers all this time, I never thought to look there. Then tonight I read a post here that inspired me to go looking as that post (thank you, @Butters!!!) brought on a huge wave of nostalgia and a rare memory from my childhood.

The company was called LaBelle's and was based in Minnesota. They were bought out by Best Products and their stores were called simply, Best.

Not that anyone cares, but here's the complete information:
