Every year for the past five or six years, I've started the new year by starting or contributing to a thread detailing what I read over the previous year. It's a good way to look back and remember some of the good, and maybe not so good reads I made it through. So, without further ado, here is the What Did You Read in 2018 thread.

Because of the great Trek drought of 2018, I didn't read nearly as much Trek as usual, but I still read fairly consistently all throughout the year. Here are my 2018 reads.

I read 52 books, and a ton of comics/Graphic novels. I read the least treklit of any recent year.

A lot of graphic novels later in the year were part of a re-read of the IDW Transformers continuity, due to its ending this year.

@CaffeineAddict - what did you think of the IDW Transformers run now that it's officially over? I'm only about 1/2 way through the entire series.
 
I read 120 books in 2018, 7 of which were Star Trek-related:

  • Discovery: Drastic Measures by Dayton Ward
  • Discovery: Fear Itself by James Swallow
  • Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor by John Byrne
  • Titan: Fallen Gods by Michael A. Martin
  • Typhon Pact: The Struggle Within by Christopher L. Bennett
As you can see, I'm trying to stay up-to-date on Discovery tie-in novels while catching up on older stuff.

Wow, that's absolutely impressive, how much you all did read. Especially 120 is such an incredible number, I had no idea, how I could reach this.

Since 2015 I'm reading the Star Trek novels, published by Cross Cult in Germany (before this, I read all 256 by Heyne). Until now, there are about 150, and I'm very far from catching up.

In 2015 I read 13 CC-Trek-novel, 2016 only 8, and 2017 14 books.
In 2018 I also read a book with my son and one with my daughter, so last year I/we came to a total number of 25 Star Trek novels, what is really a lot for me.

I think the IDW continuity is genuinely the best one. There are a few rough patches, but overall its very well written, particularly the post-war "phase two" era - More Than Meets The Eye and its sequel Lost Light are brilliant, and well worth the read. Theres a lot of "world building" in flashback stories that adds a lot of depth thats generally lacking in other Transformers fiction.

I was afraid of that. The reviews I read were a bit mixed. The numbered novels are a bit of a crap shoot, so it's always nice to be able to ask someone directly about their quality before ordering one. Thanks!

Well, it's kind of my job to read (I'm an English professor). Though it's certainly not my job to read Star Trek books. I'm a fast reader, and a disciplined one. 120 is actually on the low end for me! My annual average since 2003 is 153 books per year.

I agree. I liked Beast Wars a lot growing up but never really warmed to any other iteration of Transformers until IDW, particularly More than Meet the Eye, which might be the perfect ongoing comic book.

Yes, I took a look at your (great!) blog. It even surprised me more, that you are an english professor (and occasional Star Trek author) with family - and find the time to read that much. And not a seventy years old retired man with A LOT of time ;)
 
I read a total of 52 books last year, most of them Star Trek due to the nearly-weekly schedule of Literary Treks!

As you can see by the lack of links towards the end of the list, I'm still a bit behind on my reviews on treklit.com. However, I did do quite a bit of catch-up this year! It's only a matter of time before I'm all caught up once again!
