THE ORVILLE S2, E1: "JA'LOJA"

By the end of the episode I was sick of hearing As Time Goes By. The played it way too many times. Some good humor and it was full of typical sitcom plots. Kind of boring for a premiere.

Seemed like if this was to get viewers interested who didn't watch much or any of season one it was a pretty epic fail. It felt like the episode could have been half as long and still feel long and boring. I enjoyed season one, but this was extremely lackluster for me.

And the Moclan ceremony is every fucking Star Trek ritual scene ever.

Well at least no one gets hurt or killed in the process

I do agree this episode is a filler episode similar to "Lower Decks" or "Data's Day." The crew did some minor things and said some funny lines but did nothing to develop a new plot that moves the storyline.

I have a feeling next week's episode which also involves Bortus and Klyden (the carryover episode from S1) will also be a filler. Nothing major will happen until 'Home' is screened in two weeks time.

Overall, I give 'ja'loja' a 7 out of 10 rating.

That was pretty boring. If I wanted to watch a bland sitcom filled with relationship drama I'd watch The Big Bang Theory.

Yup. They even have one episode where Sheldon & Co dressed up as TNG characters for an appearance in a Trek convention [Spoiler: They never made it to the convention].

I swear it was one of the best 'Trek-themed' series post-2000 I ever watched :hugegrin:

The episode was fine. I just don't understand how after such a long break, some extensive marketing, and a prime-time slot after a huge football game, that you would air this as your premiere???

I'm sure the ratings were quite high for Ja'loja as Season 2 has gained lots of attention andd expectations from Trekkies.

Fingers crossed the ratings won't nose-dived for latter episodes as folks who got disappointed tuned out :confused:.

I agree that for a premier they didn't choose much of a stunner. I'm hoping for the show to pick up viewership, & this is not a premier that'll do that. Anybody who gave the show a shot tonight, didn't get much of a 1st impression imho.

It wasn't bad or anything though. They've maintained well enough, & I still found stuff to enjoy. Sadly, Ed remains my least favorite character & MacFarlane my least favorite cast member. It's just counterintuitive that the leader of a starship crew would ultimately be so petty & childish imho. Contrarily, for a character I actually didn't expect much from, I'm really quite fond of Alara. It might just be the actress. She's made everything she's done engaging

It was an odd way to begin a season and the ending was kind of awkward and anti-climatic. Like none of the "couples" who were trying to get dates for the ceremony actually ended up getting them.

I always thought that if the writers weren’t going to re-pair Ed and Kelly, that he and Alara would get together. But I guess it’s going to be the new girl.

I sense that Claire is developing feelings for Issac.

That jacket was just ridiculous. How do you even use those zips at the back?
Obviously wasn’t designed with humans in mind.

Isn’t the Battle of Tarazed an Andromeda thing? Were they learning stuff from old TV shows? :)

EDIT: I just checked and Tarazed is a real thing. Who knew?

This wasn't even bad, it was just sad, an episode comprised of lame TNG/VOY b-plots. That said, Mike Henry's Dann is one of my favorite gags on the show

I feel the Alara/Dann dating scene is similar to Data/Jenna D'Sora's scene from TNG's "In Theory" except that Dann is slightly funnier.

Data and Dann are the socially awkward but well-meaning male.partners while Alara and Jenna are cute females who are security officers. While the awkward males tried their best to impress their dates, neither one got their girl in the end :confused:.

Any chance of the UK getting it sooner than 6 months time?

EDIT: JANUARY 10!!!!
Today, December 31st for Finland. Only one day after the original showing! Unfortunately it seems like the Monday will be the regular timeslot for the Orville this year. So will have to wait longer for the rest of the episodes. But might still be one of the earliest foreign showings?
