and wonder where the hell it is now.

star trek: the art of john eaves arrived this week. was sort of amused that it had two short sections about the shuttles from star trek 2009 and provided more info about their creation than eagelmoss' similarly timed release.

the short version: USS kelvin shuttle was designed to be more in line with TOS in keeping with the design of the kelvin herself, the "passenger shuttle" an evolution of that in the style of ryan church's enterprise, the military shuttle was directed by scott chambliss to be utilitarian, no-frills.

Received a shipping notice a few days ago for the Klingon "Disaster" ship and the DISCO plaque.

I'm looking forward to having another alien ship to the set, but I'm really looking forward to that Sarcophagus ship. I busted out the ship charts today just to look at a few designs. I was also suprised by how similar a lot of the Klingon designs were. Then again, maybe the Fed ships are just as similar, and I'm just focusing on the radical changes to Klingon design. I'm sure this next issue is going to be just as interesting as the BOP was in issue #4.

I also opened my Shenzhou plaque today just to take a peak at it before the DISCO one arrives and I must say I am surprised by how heavy it is, and the quality of the product. This isn't something I never would have purchased on it's own, but nonetheless I am very glad and extremely grateful to receive it as a subscriber gift.

it's one of my favorite models, but they left the bridge dome unpainted so you have a little DIY project with a turquoise sharpie in your future.

Great to hear! :) have sharpie pen on standby, so will ‘Refit’ the dome when the ship arrives at dock!

Just got an email today from Eaglemoss. "Klingon Ship C", the tardigrade and Disco plaque are on their way. Honestly I'm only really looking forward to the plaque, but such is the burden of the completionist collector. :)

Got the same email, except for the Tardigrade. Mine says IOU Tardigrade Insert.

While playing Star Trek: Fleet Command (the Kelvinverse Trek app / game) I must admit, in a fantasy want-list for eaglemoss to produce - I would love to see them make a Realta starship (describes as an old fashioned, entry level starfleet vessel) kinda looks like a more angular USS Kelvin, but with rectangle nacelles / secondary hull - and a saucer cut-in at the front of the vessel.

As a design it fits in well within the Kelvinverse fed starship lineage - and looks interesting.

Essentially: I’d love to see more Kelvinverse starships from eaglemoss - including new designs from the game.

:)

Got the Qugh Class model and Discovery plaque today. Weird looking thing. Looks like one of those weird electric guitars.

I think the design would probably make for a good Klingon handheld tricorder or medical device.:guffaw:

Like, I don't think it's bad design work in general. I just have a hard time seeing a starship in it, with it lacking everything that defines a starship in the Trek universe - no engine ports, no shuttlebay, no deflector dish, not even entirely sure which part and where the warp nacelles are, and not a single window to give a sense of scale...

Yeah, this is more a mystery design object, than a functional looking spaceship design.

I've always felt these new Disco Klingon designs would have worked better for another adversarial alien race. The Kzinti, Tzenkethi or Gorn maybe. Just not Klingon. The design aesthetics just don't match up with what's been established before and after in the current timeline.

Yeah, absolutely. If only the designs afterwards were different, it miiight have gone through with a little bit of goodwill. But since the klingon designs both before and after look very, very different in a very specific style - these simply stand out in a bad way.
