Feline Follies

One of my cats is mixed Maine Coon and Persian... She's huge (over 20 pounds) and not a pure Maine Coon so...BEWARE.

Maine Coons are inherently sweet natured Kittehs - just not lap cats (since your legs would go to sleep or snap off!).

A little over two weeks ago our cat of 14 years was put to sleep. He was a wonderful cat and we miss him every day. This past Saturday there was a town sponsored pet adoption in the town I live in, I went down just to look around and not real intent on finding anything. Well I did, I immediately fell in love with this guy.

I filled out the paperwork for adoption and went and picked him up today. Let me introduce you to The Flash or just Flash for short.

I wanted to name him Agent Coulson but I was overruled. He's a 7 month old Maine Coon, incredibly loving already and as you can see by the last picture, already comfortable in the house.

From the first picture, he was clearly hypnotizing you. "You are going to take me home".

7 months old and already taking up half the desk, he'll be a monster.

^Maine Coons grow very slowly, even though they are already giant, so some will keep growing until they are 4. Junior tops out at around 18 pounds.

It's not just the weight with them, but the length. We had a shop cat, an "Egyptian Tiger" owing to his belly spots IIRC. He was fairly long as a 6 month old, had huge paws and a lot of extra skin between his legs & body (think flying squirrel).

He grew into that extra skin and topped out at 25 pounds in his prime but was never fat. He did like eating mice. Still, never as large or long as a good sized Maine Coon or Norwegian Forrest Cat.

I wish we had better cameras in the mid-90's, so I could've had a better pic of me and Sisko.

I lost Daisy last Wednesday. I had to have her put to sleep. It's hit me harder than I thought it would. She always liked to help me decorate for Halloween or Christmas, getting tangled up in things or chasing cords around.
