Lower Decks art style?

How should Lower Decks look? Something 2D, Rick and Morty or Futurama style? Hyper-realistic 2D? Anime? SD? Or 3D Star Wars Rebels stylised look? Or 3D hyper-realistic uncanny valley? Authentic 70's Filmation style with no animation since that's the only way it can ever be True Trek?

I'm expecting 2D Rick and Morty-style characters and 3D space scenes. Although my ideal fantasy would be Real Ghostbusters-style comic books come to life

As for my hopes. I would like it to be set in the TNG era. Warm colour palettes for the ship, and not too exaggerated proportions, but not quite TAS realism either.

I would like all the sets/backgrounds to be made in 3D, so things like LCARS can be done as textures, and built as if they are real set designs. Also lighting could be done easily and then we can see the cut-away views of the sets etc in the future. Then the characters are hand drawn on top of the backgrounds.

Edit: Even though the backgrounds and sets would be 3D, they would be flat/toon shaded and not rendered with realistic materials - which would stand out badly alongside the 2D characters.

2D animation definitely. I enjoyed all the variants of the Clone Wars stuff over the years but I think 2D regular animation might be most cost effective & fastest to produce.

The later seasons of Reboot did look pretty damn good. As long as we stay away from Beast Machines, I'm down.

However, I'd prefer Rick and Morty style animation, just not the character designs. Since a writer on the show is getting his own show, I wouldn't be surprised if he poached a couple members of the production team...seems to be a standard practice.

It depends on the era they go for. If it's TOS-era, I kind of hope it's more like the old Filmation animation. If it's Next Gen, then maybe something more stylized and exaggerated.

I get a Futurama vibe from some settings (mountains, et al) but more as a homage - which might not even be intentional. Either which way, it's absolutely lovely.
