A question from someone who lives reasonably locally to the NEC and who has met quite a few of the casts back when things were a lot more relaxed and less 'structured'.

I still want to meet Shatner but have been reluctant for the last two years. How difficult / time consuming / expensive would it be to meet him, get a signed photo and maybe a picture with him ?

He’s around £50 for both. I wouldn’t say the queues for him are that bad.

I met Jeri Ryan for a autograph and photo - she has a firm handshake (as did Jason Isaacs). Also Nana Visitor was another highlight (both Jeri and Nana are SO MUCH younger looking than their real years).

I enjoyed the event immensely, but you had to pay through the nose (even when I paid half of it weeks/months in advance), and having the photos sold seperate on another stall (because bullfuck reasons) was ripping the piss.

So, in other words, you actually have no evidence of that at all.

The title on top of the photo gives the bias away. Anyone can capture a single moment and claim it was the complete picture.

You're obviously so biased against this event (and this show), and you repeatedly refuse to disclose what your issue is. That is, of course, your right. But be clear it will influence how seriously you're taken.

Especially with pages and pages of people who were actually there telling us what a good time they had.

Can you just queue up for Shat with cash in your hand or do you have to book a timeslot, take a number or other such complications ?

Sometimes there is a timeslot. Sometimes it’s just queuing up. Depends on how busy it is.

I agree with you 100%; they both look great. It seems unfair somehow that actors on a show that I watched as a kid still somhow manage to look like their only five years older than me. Christ, get fat already, Sylvester Stallone!

p.s. I'm reminded of an old Letterman episode where he complimented Cher on still looking good. Cher laughed and said something like "Saying a woman 'looks good for her age' is like saying 'you don't sweat much, for a fat chick. "

I think you as an individual also reach an age where you are like sheesh Linda Park (or anyone younger then you) is only a few months younger then me and she looks so darn good and young. But I agree and considering most of these people were on a TV show 25-30 years ago its amazing to think that they are still fit, healthy and bursting with life. I can only hope to be in that kind of shape when I reach that stage in life, or simply reach that stage.

Yeah, it's incredible how some people look almost the same as they did in comparison to how they looked 15 to 30 years ago.

Anyway, while Birmingham's Destination event at the NEC was a touch less slick and varied than London's MCM event at the ExCel (with generally older attendees), it was overall still worth the effort and some of the expense.

It depends, with Photoshoots you buy in advance (you might be able to buy on the day but I wouldn't recommend to try that for the "bigger" stars) when the photoshoots start they are called in batch order once your batch has been called you can join the queue. The Photo shoots tend to move fairly fast. You'll get your photo 30 or seconds after it's taken.

As for Auto's once again a star like Shatner will be on virtual queue, that is to say they'll be a crew member in front of them handing out slips with a number on them, if your number is lower than what has been called you can join the queue. This allows you to do other things. They'll be another crew member that takes the cash off you when you get closer to the guest.

    Nah

The lines for the DSC actors went out the signing room doors at Vegas this year.

You cannot judge a show based on a single convention.

I think that photo was taken sometime on Sunday likely mid morning or later.

For a show that's supposed to be not popular there were tonnes of people walking around in Discovery uniforms and Disco t-shirts.

This was true- there were a huge number of people in disco t shirts and uniforms.

The convention was great and I’ll enjoy next years too

Land Rover fans I imagine. :)
They were selling the STD uniforms and unlike the others, they actually looked good.
So who’s going on the Cruise? Isaacs says that he’ll sing there.

And Discovery, apparently. There's an entire forum dedicated to Discovery Drama, I'd be happy to see as little of that as possible here.
