He’s been lobbing it since mid TNG.^^^
Don't tell Patrick Sterwart that - he LOBBIED for it.
The episode Captain’s Holiday I think was meant to be an attempt at it, same with Starship Mine.

I don't understand the point of emphasizing the name of the show. Why does it matter if this new show for Stewart "eclipse" "Discovery"? Why does it matter? Do many of you want this new show to eclipse "Discovery", so that you can claim that it's better? Why? Why not view it as an attempt by CBS All Access to rebuild the Trek television franchise . . . and nothing more?
Well Picard can still be a ladies man since Sir Patrick Stewart's wives get younger and youngerGood point, but I'd hope/suspect that 16 years later...he's developed a more mature and realistic view of his character.

I get the quotation marks, not the emphasizing.
I don't think Tuskin38 was complaining. What? "Discovery" is the name of the show. The title. This is what you're complaining about?![]()

Because that would be too positive. After all, we cannot have two shows co-exists. We had to figure out who was the best captain, Kirk or Picard! We had determine who was smarter and on and on.Why does it matter if this new show for Stewart "eclipse" "Discovery"? Why does it matter? That's because they're holographic simulations... No real young woman would couple with a guy that old...Well Picard can still be a ladies man since Sir Patrick Stewart's wives get younger and younger![]()
It amuses me to know end the constant demand for Star Trek to tell new and invigorating stories while still holding on to familiar characters or ships. As much as I hear that Discovery is criticized for its reimagined tech, I believe the criticism is far more for its daring to be different (cue the defenders) with the uniforms, with the starships and with the Klingons. It offered too much change and it certainly was not acceptable!!!!!^^^
Because for some (myself included) - there can be only ONE "TRUE/BEST" version of Star Trek (And for me - that IS "Star Trek" the original series..YMMV) again
The funny thing to me is - a lot of ST: D detractors decry the use of the Spock and Sarek characters in the series, as well as the new Burnham's character's ties to them...and claim ST: D is relying too much on existing characters and lore...Star Trek always needs to be new/original...
YET - some of those same people hear "New show about Captain Picard..."
And many are all:
"Great this is EXACTLY what Star Trek should be...I can't wait for Riker, Data, Worf, Troi..et al to make an appearance on it; and I bet we'll get flashbacks of Picard in the Enterprise too! Yay! So much better than ST: D...."

Before a single script is written, promo shown...and then there's the other thing that they seem to love with regard to said Picard show, but dislike about ST: D.![]()

So much so, that the production team ran back to some more familiar elements (Pike, the Enterprise, Spock, colored uniforms), doubling down on the nostalgia. What will happen with Season 2 is complaints that Season 2 is playing it too safe and should take more chances.
In other words, production teams cannot win.

Those are not the lessons that studios are taking away from the market currently. They should pay less attention to the fans and more to their audience. Most viewers want to be entertained, they don't care if it's coherent with a fifty-year-old show.

The problem with the fans is that they're never happy. There's always too much of this, not enough of that... it's an endless complaint...Those are not the lessons that studios are taking away from the market currently.
