Can yankee fans really complain about Stanton? Jeter basically gave him to them for nothing.

So would you rather have it as the way Mr. Laser Beam wants it, with the wild card abolished and the team with the best record getting a first-round bye?

The play-in game makes for chaosball (which is always good) and doesn't punish a team for having a great season, like the Yankees did, when someone else in their division goes ham.

Just to be clear, I would only want the wildcard eliminated if there is another expansion. Then each league could go to a four-division setup, with 4 teams each. Simple, logical, efficient.

We need a wildcard now, because there are only three divisions. With four, there would be no need for one, as they could just go straight into the division series.

I hate the play-in game. A single elimination game in baseball between two good teams is close to a coin flip. In at least half of years it penalizes the 2nd or 3rd best team just for being in the best division. I don't even like that the first round is 5 games instead of 7.

I'd make it four divisions instead of 6 and have two wild cards that get in the playoff normally like in the NHL.

To me a good playoff system is one that balances increasing the odds of the best team winning, and creating good drama. Having single game playoffs in a sport where outcomes of single games are more stochastic is lowering the odds of the best team winning *and* not good drama.

I’d think Ortiz in 2013 probably has best ALCS locked up. Can look at other numbers but he hit like .675 or something like that with a bunch of walks added in and lots of power.

edit: I was wrong, thinking of his WS stats that year, and it was .688 with a couple HRs. Was bad in the ALCS, but hit the grand slam that saved the season. So, Ortiz has probably the greatest WS performance, not ALCS :)

I remember Big Papi being clutch. I thought him and Manny were the scariest 3/4 punch against us. Manny is probably the best hitter I've actually seen on the field.

If I was going to pick a fight about the past, I wouldn't pick one with an admin who has an obsessive ability to recall... almost anything.

    Anyways, go Brew Crew!
I couldn't care less about the AL side of things.

Go ahead, quote what you want if you think it will make you feel better.

    I know I wasn't against Didi for a year.

LA Dodgers over Atlanta in 4

4 for 4, even if I only got 1 game count right, but now is when it gets interesting:

    Houston over Boston in 6
    Milwaukee over LA in 7

We’re also talking about the fanbase that loves Jeter and Mattingly despite the fact that each openly resented having his one-time chief rival (A-Rod for Jeter and Boggs for Mattingly) as a teammate. When Mattingly was coaching under Torre, he actually suggested that Jeter to “fake it” with A-Rod, telling the younger man, “I faked it with Boggs. You have to fake it with Alex.”

Jeter was a shitlord for not moving over to third when the Yankees acquired A-Rod. Yeah, no one could have predicted Rodriguez's hips grinding to dust, plus the PED stuff, but Jeter's range was absolutely gone by then.

My friend who I watch sports at bars with doesn't want to go anywhere but the bar right down the street from Fenway, even when the Red Sox are in the playoffs with a strong chance to win.

Maybe I should take public transportation to avoid my car getting destroyed.

Well, Chili David has been fired as Cubs hitting coach because....it can't possibly be Joe Maddon's fault the batting order couldn't produce runs despite having higher BA's overall.

They needed another outfielder at the time, always thought he'd have been better off out there. He'd have been fine in center or left for a couple years, he did fine on balls in the air. Just couldn't handle anything on the ground that wasn't hit at his glove towards the end...
