MLB World Series 2018: Eh. Dodgers/Boston. Eh.

Sanchez looked pretty terrible defensively at the plate, not sure what you were watching. And batted sub-200 for the year. Can run into one occasionally, but misses pretty much all the rest of them. Stanton didn't have a great series, but without him, you're playing Gardner full time, and he was pretty terrible himself, so for not wanting/needing him, he kinda was still needed. Plus he helped you a ton with GETTING to the playoffs, so you probably aren't playing last night without him. Biggest blunder since Ellsbury? come on...

You guys just kinda enjoy eating your own young occasionally, so I guess this is today's target. Remember your irrational hatred for Didi? He seems ok, you haven't circled back on that one lately ;)

Plus side, I'm glad the Sox ended up with JD over Stanton, seems like a really nice fit in year 1.

Still how many years left on this contract? Without Stanton we would have brought up more young talent. We got McCutchen to eleviate the Gardner/injury whoas. Gardner tires as the season progresses; he has for years now. I'd be surprised if he's a Yankee next year. (I thought he was a good Yankee BTW) Stanton did help us get there, but really all he did was get us one home game if you look at it.

Fake news. Never "hated" Didi, I was concerned that the line on him was he didn't do well with the press. You really couldn't ask for much more. Great kid.

JD was the best FA sign by any team in the off-season. He's killing it.

I'm too lazy to link back to all of the posts, but feel free to put your name in the search engine for this forum with Didi as the keyword. "he sucks, noodle bat, terrible signing by Cashman, cut him loose, 2/17 in spring training means he's a failure, can't hack it here, will never replace Jeter, all glove and will never hit", so on and so forth. they're all in the 2014/2015 thread, if you need a refresher. I've had a grin remembering that every time you've praised him lately. it would be like a Red Sox fan gushing about David Price if there's ever a post-season game where he remembers which end of the baseball to pitch with... ;)

Oh, fucking balls. You were crying and moaning for a solid year about the Yankees trading Shane Greene for someone who, as I recall, I repeatedly said could become a franchise cornerstone for a decade if his bat came around.

I must be the only Astros fan who posts in here. LOL

After we win the next 10 world series in a row the world series trophy will be named after us. :p

I got nothing against the Astros but I think I'll go NL this world series. Especially if it's the Brewers.

As for the Yankees: Meh. We lost. Gotta get down off our cross, use the wood to build a bridge, and get over it. We should be glad we won Game 2.

Besides, let's see how the Redsox like being the evil empire for awhile.

It could go that way. Either that or your young star core will age out by then, so it'll be a matter of whether you can maintain and replace as they leave. That's the real bear of it. You're still in that sweet spot where you're playing with half a team of #1 overall picks that aren't making real money yet, so that clock will run out and you gotta pick a couple of them or juice the payroll bigtime. On the plus side, you made a lot more out of it than when the Rays tried it, they didn't get over the hump before collapsing.

Either way, not taking anything away from them, this will hopefully be a hell of a series either way. AL homerism, maybe, but have a hard time seeing the NL team that beats whoever comes out of the AL. But any given sunday and whatnot I guess...

I don't think the NL team that makes it can beat either the Astros or Red Sox. It sure was sweet beating the Dodgers last year, that would be great if it were to happen again. It's baseball though, and you can never tell what will happen until it does, but I just don't see the NL team taking the series this year.

I was thinking that for a while, but the Brewers' pitching is terrifying and they're on a hot streak of demolishing everything in sight--and on top of that, their pitchers will be fully rested going into what they're almost certainly going to try to make a short series. I wouldn't want any piece of them.

Besides, let's see how the Redsox like being the evil empire for awhile.

Okay, this has been bothering me for ages. Do you realize that the team names are White Sox and Red Sox? They aren't one word unless you're using an abbreviation like ChiSox or BoSox.

I think it would be fun if we got an Astros/Brewers World Series, playing against their former leagues.

It sure would scramble my brains because I'm only just getting use to which leagues they actually belong to now.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Astros in the AL. LOL

Bud Selig wanted to manufacture an Astros/Rangers rivalry. And since he once owned the Brewers, there's no way they were moving back to the AL.

Whatever.

Well that didn't work out real well.

Texan instate rivalries are at the collegiate level, not pro. The only noticeable pro rivalry is the Cowboys/Texans which only happens once every four years, and if the game is in Houston half the people show up in Dallas jerseys. LOL

The Seligs were fully divested of the Brewers around 2004. The Astros' move happened in, what, 2012? The idea was to balance the leagues and divisions, since the NL Central was overloaded and the AL West had only four teams.

Edit: If memory serves, Drayton McLane had already agreed to moving the Astros to the AL before he even explored selling the team.

Whatever.

go yamkees, then. If we're just going to misspell names.

I've always been fond of STANKees, personally. :D

Okay, I'll admit, that gave me a genuine chuckle.

True, but that was merely one game and Stanton stunk over four games.

Once again, small sample size means the stats are insignificant, particularly when this was Stanton's first playoff appearance. Every player can go into a slump after playing 160-some games after going through a month-plus of spring training followed by, what, like nine months of games?

Edit: He did knock a dinger in the wild card game, too. So it's not like he sucked out loud in the entire postseason.

I would say that the hand-wringing over Stanton is surprising ... but then I remember that we're talking about the fanbase that ran out Alex Rodriguez with torches and pitchforks despite him having one of the greatest World Series performances in history along with probably the greatest ALCS performance in history.
