No. The production team realized they wanted Patrick Stewart / Picard back. Not that they wanted any particular "era" back.

They’ll have a harder time shoehorning in TOS characters into this, that’s for sure.

Most things I write aren't serious. Would be funny if they did though.

You must do pretty poorly at Prisoner of Azkaban trivia.

They managed to bring back Scotty, McCoy and Spock without much issue in TNG. The only thing really stopping them is the age of the original actors.

Other than that, there really is no guarantee.

Now is that a joke? At least you didn’t think it was a anti Superman symbol. :)

In the old days that's what making something original used to mean, like, um, Star Trek was to Forbidden Planet or Star Wars was to Flash Gordon. Tends to avoid fan-rage that way. But hey, that's not the world we're living in anymore, is it?

It always depends on the presentation.
‘We’re trying new things, putting a different spin on it, and hopefully honouring the original whilst telling a new story’
‘The old version is really a bit rubbish, our version is much better, and so much more awesome, it’s been great to take these ideas and change them into something that we can sell using the existing name’

One of these approaches works well. The other attitude ended up ruining the new Ghostbusters. On the plus side, there’s now an actual rubbish version with some good ideas that need salavaging, so next time out we can have an all or mostly female GB team with a decent story. Maybe even keep some of the cast. It can be a fine line for some people I think...there’s homage, then there’s ripping off, there’s parody, and then there’s taking the mickey.

That's simply not true, we know barely anything about the 23rd century, the majority of the TOS adventures where isolated incidents, we got to see the adventures of one ship over just a few years.

While true, Kurtzman made some joke like "Wouldn't you guys love to know who the bad guys are?" recently. This suggests there actually are antagonists for the season. Thus it will be serialized, and it's not going to be some heavily internalized/cerebral look at an elderly Jean Luc. Also not a "mystery" plot like DIS Season 2. Maybe more action-oriented, or dealing with political intrigue.

There's no way a show like that could justify multiple seasons anyway. I mean, I could take it for a single 2 hour special but beyond that it would get boring fast.

‘This could lead to the end of the federation’
‘The very universe is at risk’
‘Earth is under direct threat of imminent destruction’

Ignoring that heroes usually (but not always) save the day, these sentences can never ever be spoken in DSC and have any real stakes, while it is part of Prime continuity. Does a story have to have such high stakes to work in Trek? No. But a fair chunk of them do. All good things. The dominion war in DS9. Best of Both Worlds. Anything with Species 8472. A chunk of all Borg stories tbh. At least two of the movies.
Some will say ditch the continuity. But (a) they haven’t and (b) the continuity for many is a big part of Treks appeal.
It’s an inherent problem with prequels. You can see what you like about Lucas, but he at least made sure there were stakes in his prequels, even though we knew what was coming. In fact he made that tension part of the story.
The one thing you can do is make characters that we care about to put in jeopardy or watch grow.
Which is why I think moving away from the Klingon war stuff is Key to DSC continuing.
It’s also why the Picard series will do well...it already has a character people have some attachment to, and can also have big stakes if it needs them. It’s likely of course Picard will die in the end, it’s a trend for actors with cult characters. I was actually surprised when Deckard didn’t die in Blade Runner 2049.
