The last thing 12th said to himself was to never tell anybody his name. I wonder if the reason she doesn't ‘know her name’ is that's the last thing she told herself, and is her strongest memory in her post-generation confusion; perhaps her reawakening subconscious still confusing ‘The Doctor’ with her name. Given that the General the Doctor killed in Hell Bent was so quickly back on her feet, I'd say it might be a survival skill for Gallifreyans to have a strong sense of their last moment prior to their death, with their state of mind, giving them control ever it, allowing them to react fast.
However, the Doctor last moment was an unsound state of mind in which he refused to let go, and his last words were desperately trying to use words to convince his next incarnation to not change from where he was, leaving herself quite forgetful and confused when she finally came to her senses.
It would be hilarious if one of her lines tonight is about eating Pez.

The Doctor's name and other bits o' mystery have not been revealed because to know too much removes the mystery of this cool alien that likes to explore the galaxy throughout Time. I'm hoping the new team actually takes the show back to basics more completely and consistently again, though I liked a lot of what Moffat was doing - especially with Capaldi. He just needed to do more of it and not cower to fans who wanted another plopped-out mold of Tennant or Smith.

Not really. "I'm eatin' Pez now. Eatin' Pez is cool!" is the last thing anyone would really want to see or hear, the show doesn't need to be a self-referential, hollow pastiche of what preceded it a mere 7 years ago.
Why not? Davison's aired two of its four-part stories on a Monday and Tuesday initially, and for each of his seasons had a minor day swap. Sunday's a day the show's never ever been aired on before. Relish it!
Looking forward to rating the episode, but post-regeneration stories have rarely done much for me. Only Doctors 1-5 have had compelling openers. All the others since have been hit and miss. The next few weeks are going to be more interesting.

8. There are two times when the episode is intentionally misleading about which character is being referenced. Both will break your heart.

On the other hand, the Second Doctor had similar post-"renewal" confusion, briefly referring to the Doctor as a different person and saying "Oh, I don't look like him."
Keeping in mind that Capaldi's Doctor was the first in a new regeneration cycle, there are some parallels to his previous "first" self -- an older-looking man (but more spry and athletic than he appeared) who's initially antisocial and even amoral, but gradually learns to be kind and fight for justice. (And they both regenerated after fighting Mondasian Cybermen, and as we now know from "Twice Upon a Time," both resisted regeneration.) Now we've got two "second" incarnations who are younger, smaller, and a little confused about their identity right off the bat. They even both had their previous incarnation's ring fall off their finger inside the TARDIS.
I agree. I thought the friendship between Eleven and young Amy Pond was cute though.
As for the openers, I think SE 4 EP 12 had the best opening by far. Best music AND all the major characters from Ten's adventures the 3 previous seasons. Doesn't get better than that.

Amazing show, but that surprise regeneration back into Capaldi as she hit the ground at the beginning really caught me off guard, i never saw that coming, sad though to see her Dr gone so quick though, but loved seeing the Toy maker back, and a red Tardis, they really have gone all out on this new Who, loved the new intro theme by Stock, Atken and Waterman.
Oh and who would have thought Davis would be back helming the show, what a end announcement through the end credits, so yeah plent of new stuff.

I'm curious to know about this "gut punch of a twist" coming up that everyone has expected
I won't get to watch it for some time but I hope it's good. Ever since I started watching the show in 2005, I was wondering why there couldn't be a woman doctor. It's written in the show that the doctor can change and they even joke about appearance after the change happens, hence the ginger jokes. I remember people on this forum criticizing me for even asking the question.
Well today that question finally gets realized. There is a conspiracy theorist in me saying this is for political reasons, but if the story is written well, it won't matter in the long run.
