Spoilers TNG: IDW 20/20 (Stargazer story) by Peter David Review Thread

Jinn

Mistress of the Chaotic Energies
Rear Admiral
"Twenty years before he took command of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard sat in the captain’s chair of the U.S.S. Stargazer. Picard served with distinction aboard the Stargazer for many years on his way to becoming the most respected captain in Starfleet. But in this early mission, Picard shows us a vulnerable side as well as glimpses of the brilliant tactician he would become."

It was announced that there will be a Star Trek one-shot issue as part of IDW's 20/20 event (celebrating their 20th anniversary), which will be written by Peter David and illustrated by JK Woodward.

Also, on the preview page Picard totally looks like Lorca from Discovery here, right?

Today, IDW announced the upcoming release of Star Trek: 202/20, a new one-off comic book written by long time Trek writer Peter David with art by J.K. Woodward, and focused on Jean-Luc Picard, Jack Crusher, and Beverly Howard (later Crusher) on board the Stargazer.
Definitely interested in this. Even though I thought New Frontier went off the rails towards the end, I still like Peter David overall, and I love J.K. Woodward's art. We also haven't gotten a lot of stories set on Stargazer with Jack Crusher, so this being set in that era is major draw for me.

Uh, no, he looks like Picard in the flashbacks from "Violations," albeit with a bit more hair.
Eh, now that I looked up a pic of Lorca I think the general face shape is pretty much identical, but the eyebrows and ears are different and the hairstyle also differs a bit.

He looks a lot like Lorca.

I wouldn't have the slightest interest in this, if it wasn't for Peter David writing it. And the Monster Maroons are terrible without the turtle neck and belt. Starfleet budget cuts mean only the captain gets a belt?

I agree with everything except for the Monster Maroons. They're the best :D

If you'll excuse me, I have to run for cover now. To the Enterprise-C!

Sad there doesn't seem to be a Transformers component to IDW 20/20, but I suspect my wife will be excited about the My Little Pony one-shot.

Woodward might not know how the monster maroon rank pins work, but at least he knows what the Stargazer looked like, unlike Eaglemoss.

I think the fact that everything else is so accurate, makes that ensign pin stick out more.

That's a really strange art style for Woodward. Usually he draws in watercolors wich looks a lot more energetic.

Interesting choice of uniform for Crusher though. Looks like they used the made-up uniform from the Cadet Beverly Crusher Action Figure from playmates :D

It is funny how similar Woodward's style is to former Trek comic cover artist Jerome K. Moore.
