Series 11 News & Spoilers

I have a question. Timelords according to canon are suppose to only live 12 lives or is that wrong? She is suppose to be breaking that cycle for a reason I can't recall. Basically doesn't this mean that this would not be a normal regeneration but a kind of physical change/regeneration unlike all the rest?. Maybe the Doctor was never suppose to be a women for whatever genetic reasons but once he/she moved past their 12 lives it sort of changed things where he/she can now be both genders. A kind of added feature that he use to not be able to do but now can.

I think the Doctor got extra regenerations when he saved Gallifrey. Other Time Lords have been mentioned as switching genders.

Incorrect

Timelords can be any gender, remember after the Doctor got out of the Confession Dial that soldier that got shot was a guy but changed into a woman, and then the Master became Missy.

Do people still have some hangup about the Doctor being a woman?

What I don't like about this first episode is the whole
amnesia thing
being used to push the episode along because that clip is amazing but it really rankles me they do this all the time, and not just this show but they use that one a lot in many shows.

The Time Lords gave The Doctor another regeneration cycle in Matt Smith's last episode. An ability the Classic Series established (back in 1983) that they already possessed technologically.

As with most such "rules", there were occasional exceptions to the twelve regeneration limit. The High Council offered the Master a new regeneration cycle if he rescued the various incarnations of the Doctor from the Death Zone. (TV: The Five Doctors)

She's really the 14th Doctor when you count the War one, so a new regeneration cycle must have started.

So maybe that's why she doesn't remember her name... :p

Canon with Who as like most shows can be very accommodating seeing as the writers way back 50 plus years ago could never have dreamed the show would not only still be going but would be dissected and studied yeats later, but even if you ignore that the changed this way back on the 20th anniversary special when they offered The Master a whole new regeneration cycle, so sorted and timey wime, and of course the obvious point that yhe timelords themselves seem to break every law they themselves as supposed to police. Lol

The 10th failed regeneration counted, the 12th was the start of a new regeneration cycle.

I'm not saying TImelords can't on the whole can't change gender. Just that not all of them can. Kind of like how you can be gay or straight but not everyone is gay or straight. Maybe he was born only being able to be a man which is why we have always seen him as a man but when he was given this extra life it changed how regeneration works so now he can be both man and woman. Basically a head-canon reason to explain why we have never seen the Doctor as a woman before.

Why? You accept that a near immortal alien can cheat death by changing his appearance and becoming essentially a whole new person, but a man becomes a woman and suddenly that demands immediate explanation?

The Master lived eighteen lives a male and became female for the nineteenth life. The General lived ten lives female, became male for the eleventh, and back to female for the twelfth. The Doctor has lived fourteen lives a male, and is now becoming female for the fifteenth.

I wouldn't say it demands a explanation but it would simply explain why it took so long for him to make the change or the Master as well. Granted their can be a danger to knowing to much about the Timelords. It always good to keep some mystery but if they wanted to explain it I think it could be neat. Just because a story doesn't need to be told doesn't mean it can't be told. I guess it depends on how interested you are into adding new stuff to the mytho's as opposed to keeping people coming up with their own theories.

Why does it even matter? Maybe the Doctor was just bored of always being male, based on dialogue Time Lords have a much more evolved attitude about sex and gender calling human notions of it petty. They go through bodies like shoes and they seem to give it as much thought too. So there's your answer, the Doctor is a woman because she's a woman now, end of story. Even when the Master regenerated into Missy, his only reaction was "great, this asshole is back from the dead again".

11 May have known he was the Doctor, but he didn't know what kind of food he likes.
Exactly, also he kept glowing (still cooking). In addition Matt's performance is very different, he's vaguely Tennanty rather than the 11 we'll come to know.

Also, and you know this may have a bearing, not only has 13 regenerated, but she also FELL FROM A GREAT HEIGHT! So you know, that could also have something to do with the memory loss

Maybe she got bopped on the head during the fall

And last time the Doctor had a fall from a great height she was pretty messed up following the regeneration and this time there's no Zero Room (but at least there's no Master to worry about).
