Captain Marvel (2019)

She can fly. The other name is Binary which makes even less sense.
This character used to date Parker in the comics. Now she's old enough to be his mum.
Birds got wings. Even Nightwing had some goofy wings for awhile. Exception for Black Canary because she sings.
Peter always has an eye for the older ladies. Liz Allen.

Bird could be seen as slang for female here. Maybe a Brit names her.
She would be in her 50’s now. That might be a bit old for him.

It's aviation slang from the 40's now used to refer to old military planes operated by civilians.

I find it rather bland. I like names that mean something. The Gambit/Bishop/Cable naming style is horrible. If you call a character "Warbird" she's better have some damn wings.

I'll give you Gambit (whom I loathe), and Cable (who I adore). But Bishop, well, some comic book writer out there agrees with you. And it has since been established that Bishop is not a codename, but rather his actual name. Lucas Bishop.

Liz was a high school classmate. Are you maybe thinking of Betty Brant (who was herself established to be close to Peter in age, but a high-school dropout)?
You're right, I meant Betty. She was close to Peter's age as you say. Probably slightly older. I wonder if someone 16-17 could get a job like Betty's these days?

On her collar.

Kurt and Mark (at a convention) said (near me) that she got the new name to commemorate her military career.

Bird heroes gotta have wings. Big honking wings. Wings that make doorways impractical.
How established was her military career at that point? Was she even a full bird colonel?

From day one she was a military observer trying to prove that Mar-Vell was a sneaky Russian spy, in his book.

It was a weird switch that she's suddenly a reporter for NOW magazine, ignoring all he sexist shit coming out out of J Jonah Jameson' s mouth, the second she got her solo book.

No, but they never could...they explained in the comics that Betty's mom had the job first and when she was incapacitated Jameson let her take over her mom's position out of loyalty and because the Brants needed her income. It was to explain how she and Peter could be close enough in age to be in a relationship without her coming off as a pedo.

They can call him Captain Marvel they just can't using as the title of a book. Most recently they did in Multiversity. It easier to use Shazam for the character and the book. Most folks call him Shazam anyway thanks to the TV show back in the 70's.
Most folks??? Really? Altho the 70's series was titled Shazam, I thought the series explained what Shazam meant and the character was still called Captain Marvel. Hmm. DC should work out an agreement because this is just wrong, and what's worse is the shit WB is producing for a movie; some slapstick, parody of Superman. Jesus.

Yeah most people remember "Shazam" rather than Captain Marvel. What can I say, they aren't hardcore fans.

There is absolutely nothing that DC can do about it, furthermore they have no one but themselves to blame. At this point, they probably would just rather let it go since this both characters are getting big budget motion pictures. At this point, it would just confuse the brands.

She's been a Colonel ever since her first appearance, IIRC.
Carol? I recall her being head of security at a base Mar-Vell infiltrated, but dressed in civilian clothes and addressed as "Miss" rather than by a rank.

Not sure how they can be blamed. They didn't get a hold of the character until 1972. Well after Marvel created their own Captain Marvel.

She did Spy-Shit with "younger" Wolverine before he joined the X-Men.

(A copy of Carol's personality was in control of Rogue's body sometimes, in the 80s, back when Claremont was writing.)

Close quarters assassinations overseas probably.

A few dead Russian diplomats, and Carol is a full bird.
