The irony is that if CBS had made AXANAR exactly as presented instead of whatever that guy's face's name is there still would be a bunch of fans complaining about how it's the worst thing ever. Fans think they know what they want, but when they get it they hate it. Nobody knows what anybody wants.

Based on the axanar script I read I would have hated it. It wasn't very good. Maybe it would have been improved before filming but it needed a lot of work.

The script you read that was widely released WAS their 'locked an polished' script. (The people who released said the earlier drafts were even more over the top with 'Super Savior Garth' situations.)
