Series 11 News & Spoilers

Well currently you have Bodyguard on, which is providing to be a huge hit. You've had Line of Duty, Poldark, Call the Midwife that have all done well in recent years to name but a few.

I guess nobody goes out on a Sunday :D

They must not be worried to much about ratings in America because Sunday is a prestige night for tv in America. HBO shows most of it's shows on Sunday along with the Walking Dead shows and then you got Family Guy and the Simpsons. Same with Showtime. Also Sunday NIght Football and the World Series will be around the corner.

Good reason to avoid watching BBC or the series.

What a brilliant idea!

I'm going to stop watching my favourite programme at a time when I've been more excited about it than in years just beause some overpaid lawyers sent out a ridiculous letter, which they wouldn't even have consulted Chibnall about before sending it.

That's 10 hours freed up to do something else.

Saturday Night = Crappy quizes, Reality Shows, Z-List Nobodies Dancing.
Sunday Night = Nearly all of BBC1's High Profile Dramas.
Also: Saturday = Strictly's runtime varies as couples are eliminated, so no consistent timeslot. Sunday = consistent timeslot.

Unwarranted legal threats used to silence small online publishers are outrageous enough to boycott. Has BBC issued an apology for the actions of their overpaid lawyers?

Breaking the glass ceiling and female empowerment song. I don't think they were subtle enough ;)

What a bunch of liberal SJW nonsense, which threatens me as a white male.

BUILD THE WALL!!!

Oh wait, this isn't one of those threads, is it? Never mind me then.

That was an ok teaser. The song was godawful, but whatever. I just really want to see the show. Even if a lot of the elements don't seem that good (like the costume, the bits we know about the stories, the companions), just getting some new Doctor Who without Moffat is exciting.

How did the glass not land on her cutting her all up even though she is standing right underneath it? I expect better science from "Doctor Who."

Fart. Artron energy powered. Still whooshing and blowing it away from her.
In all seriousness, it’s a funny gag with one downside...it’s not like Doctor Who for a very long time has really been a thing where you can say not casting a woman in the role was down to sexism. First it was just a binary gendered thing, then they introduced the concept a bit at a time over the last two doctors that it was possible. It was even done as part of a prophetic gag years and years ago on comic relief (which parts of that sketCh haven’t been turned into canon now, one way or another....) The show itself since at least the eighties hasn’t been what you could call anything approaching outright sexist by the standards of its day either....Turlough did as much ‘end up in pickle and need rescuing’ if not more than his contemporaries. Cartmel, for all his flaws, pushed for strong female characters, and the female companion as smart and equal as a human can be to the Doctor has been around since Leela or Romana.
Still. Funny gag, didnt like the tune much though. Probably because it’s too modern for my taste, but maybe breaking out the Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin was too soon or too much.

Edit to say, of course Romana was a (then) Time Lady. After that, one of the female companions was always a scientist of some form. Nyssa, Peri, Mel, Ace....and most were perfectly able to stand toe to toe with the Doctor in arguments etc.

That's proably true but it is just a add. I don't think we are suppose to take it all that serious. They clearly don't understand nerds.:) The music was awful though and if you want a song why not go with something by Billie Piper? I never heard her sing but I understand she use to be a popstar in Britain before getting cast as Rose.

Did anyone ever recognize the pattern of the glass motif? Why would the Doctor destroy something that's related to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Center or something quite like it? Seems counter-intuitive, which seems odd. Oops? ;)

If "welcoming" is synonymous with "pomposity", even RTD waited for high viewership before he got all self-congratulatory for such glitzy soap opera.

Especially when there's nothing about the show other than the new actor playing the role in the latest teaser. Teasers are supposed to lure but nothing showing the episodes or format has been shown yet and the big one with thew companion introductions may or may not be reflecting on them - would the new Doctor really meddle in their personal lives like that? Destroying expensive cultural stuff too. Is she anti-human now? At first I thought that would be bold and creative, but the more time passes the more it all feels superfluous and hollow. These hollow non-teasers are getting tiresome. I'll skip the rest before there's any actual backlash over seeing the Emperor's new wardrobe.

Agreed. Teaser or spectacle or not, there should be SOME semblance of standards. DW has come a long way in consistent scientific accuracy as well. All things considered. It would be big bold change to improve on that.

Because she knew just where to stand so that she was in the center of the chaos going on around her. In other words, she's the Doctor.

It'd s different take, but I'll agree with that. Maybe a monster in orbit passed gas and the pressure caused it to collapse and the Doctor says "oops" because she brought it-- wait a minute, what happened to that show about an alien that travels all time and space to explore and learn? And will the new Doctor say "I'm an insane person with a box" in the way the show has become a self-caricature over the last decade and a half...

What does the production team expect us to respond to it as, then? People have every right to take it seriously, especially given all the alleged nuances and seriousness accorded it.

I did a cursory glance, the music wasn't done by the composer as well. It's all now even more suspicious if not outright spurious. So, yeah, no more of the expensive empty garbage clips. Let's see the actual episodes and get the petty song and dance over with. Are the scripts going to be even remotely good because everything is going to hinge on those.

Well we got to consider that many people might not even know the new Doctor is going to be female until these adds. Not sure how mainstream that news is with most of the world outside of nerd culture. So just showing the Doctor as a women might be seen as a big deal. I do worry that the adds haven't shown any of the monsters or aliens or any scene were she is doing something funny and weird which does play into those fears that have come up recently of wanting to make the character normal. It sort of reminds of how tv was back in the 80's and 90's and of course before that when that stuff was seen as "dumbing down" shows to create the biggest wide range of appeal. Shows that try to be something for everyone feels very dated when everything these days seem to be going for niche. Granted that was how things were done in America. DId British tv go through a time when their shows were also dumbed down for mass consumption? I know they were head of the curve on the idea of shorter tv seasons but I really don't know how tv was like in the past outside of America.
