I grew up around Detroit, Michigan, mostly in Livonia. When I was about 8 or 9, so around 1971 or so, there was a Star Trek shop that was walking distance from my home. It was magical. Right when I was really becoming obsessed with the show this shop appeared. I'm pretty sure I spent every bit of allowance there getting Star trek posters, model kits, post-cards and other stuff. I've looked for references to it online but can't find any. I've found shops in NY and LA, but no reference to anything in Michigan. Anybody here from there and remember this place? I don't even remember what it was called.

I grew up in Illinois and had a similar experience with a toy store that doubled as a newsstand. Walk in, you'd see a rack of Star Trek books as well as comic books (Superman!). Go around the other side there would be all kinds of magazines, including Monster Times and Starlog. Turn right around and the AMT model kits would be staring you in the face. A little bit further down the aisle you would have your Mego action figures. Step up to the register with your haul and buy your favorite candy bar or Switzer's licorice on your way out. Magical indeed.
I BEGGED my parents to take me to the Federation Trading Post in NYC back in the 70s, to no avail. I was only around 10 or 11 when I was first made aware of it in Starlog magazine.

I do recall seeing a photo of the 6' long fan made Klingon ship in Starlog back in the day and wishing like hell that I could see it in person. Wonder what became of it.

I was only 10 and 11 respectively, so I didn't really appreciate the fanzines being sold (the expensive authentic appearing phasers were nice to look at in their case) . I seem to recall seeing Star Wars items the second time.
No, this was strictly Star Trek. That's what was so cool about it. Way before there were comic book stores or game stores. I always wonder how long they stayed in business.

That's the other problem. We moved several times while we lived there so I'm not even sure it was Livonia. Seemed like we were usually in that area but I really don't know. Not much to go on, but I'm assuming this was probably the only shop of its kind in the area and was just hoping someone remembered it.
Definitely, once he got out of his "I Am Not Spock" phase, JB.
Can anyone blame him? Typecasting is the worst thing that can happen to any actor. He did later embrace it and the rest is history...
