As much as I agree with you, you KNOW that will never happen. They'd be out of business within a week. Go Fund Me is another one that needs a looking at. I know of one woman that every time there was a natural disaster over the past decade in the Southeast US she would start Go Fund Me drives "to help the victims"...….would go on local TV, even started a business/charity on the back of this idea. Only reason she finally has been busted is she started one for a family that lost their house in a fire......after 6 months the family got curious as 150K had been raised and they never got a dime, so people started asking where the money went. She was OK with faceless disasters but got too specific on this one. I hate people like this cause now I am wary of giving money to ANYBODY.

There was just a fairly well known YouTuber that passed away and his girlfriend has a Go Fund Me for the soaring medical bills...…..and the evil, jaded side of me wonders why she would be responsible for his medical bills. In California if you die with medical bills and your estate can't cover them what can the hospital do? I'm curious now.

Good q. But unless she signed on her responsibility for his bills, she should (should) be able to tell the hospital to go scratch. But it's possible she has insurance, let him use it (a big no-no) and now the insurer disclaimed and the hospital is pressing a connection. If funds were commingled and they lived together long enough to be considered common law marriage (see the Michelle Triola case), then the hospital might have a case there.

And yeah, it's a pipe dream.

It kills me - regular old boring charities like the Salvation Army and the Red Cross, flawed as they may be, have oversight. If their executives skim off the top, those people go to jail. But it's less fun and exciting than a crowdfunding campaign.

I also hate the fact that so many people with medical bills turn to crowdfunding. And many folks who give would also be appalled at the concept of universal healthcare and refuse to pay more on their own insurance to cover others.

But guess what, geniuses? By donating to a medical crowdfunding campaign, you ARE paying what is essentially insurance for someone who can't afford it.

God, this country is unsufferably dopey when it comes to insurance and medical care.

So this would bring down a C&D faster than the proverbial speeding bullet then?

Although the info mentioned earlier says that the project was cancelled over a year ago, I seem to remember seeing a couple of scenes, one involving Pike and Spock in someone's quarters, and a battle scene on the Bridge, with Koenigs' character on the viewscreen being all badass? Were there any more?
 
Just before going dark, they promised a Linda Park scene but it never surfaced.
 
Please, that last thing we need is MORE government regulation of our lives. Please keep government out of crowd funding. Take on the initiative to us the funding platform with the policies that are in your interest.

I can't even believe you people. What could be more inspiring...nay...more noble, than funding the lifestyle of a fellow Star Trek fan?

Man the guidelines have been great for the dishonest, greedy fan film makers.
I've never donated to any kind of crowdfunding, but I had been tempted before. Now, after Axanar, this, and @KennyB's story up thread, that's very, very unlikely. I might considering if it was someone I either know and trust, who has a proven history, or someone high profile enough they couldn't get away with a scam, but definitely not to some random person who wants people to help fund their project.

I think it will definitely require more creators to have accomplished something significant before they try and crowd fund. But that could also hurt the little guy who can't afford to have something to show for it. In any case, I don't think fanfilms should be about the most awesome special effects or most accurate lavish sets. They should be about telling stories that honor Star Trek. Budget limitations are just part of the territory.

I get exactly how you feel with crowdfunding. The two times I've done it were both for medical causes and I knew the people involved, so I knew they were legitimate. I've never donated to a crowdfunding campaign otherwise.

I've seen a number of panhandlers with a sign reading something like "Why lie? It's for beer?"

The funniest panhandler I ever encountered had drawn on a big cardboard box to make it look like a robot and hid inside, and when two women walked by the "mouth" started flapping and he said something like "Hey ladies!" and they screamed in surprise. I gave him $5 for the entertainement value.
 
I guess it helps the guy doing this Pike film is a kung fu master. aint no one gonna be in a hurry knockin on his door askin for their money back
 
Unless they've held that money in escrow, I suspect that some "co-mingling" has occurred, and the couple with be held liable for the shortfall.
