Ethan Peck cast as DSC's Spock

Seems like a fine choice to me.

I am in the camp that thinks a Pike/Number One series is coming. Or Disco could even merge into it.

Do not get the hate for using prior Trek series' to help the new series get off the ground. At least Disco waited until S2.

TNG:
1) Had McCoy in the pilot
2) Remade Naked Time/Now early in S1
3) Sarek, Amanda, Spock, & Scotty
4) Majel as Troi's mother
5) Diana Muldaur as Dr. Pulaski
6) Kirk in Generations

DS9:
1) O'Brien & Keiko on main cast
2) Worf from S4 on
3) Picard
4) Q
5) Lwaxana
6) Vash
7) Klingons: Gowron, Kor, etc.
8) TOS cast in Tribble-ations
9) Bashir on TNG

I will do VOY & ENT later, but one gets the picture.

I'd prefer they not go this route, but since they are, I like the casting and if the writing is good, I'll enjoy it.

Dollar store Spock.:rommie:

He doesn't look like a bad choice, but definitely more like a "tv" one, than a movie one. I try to be open - the actors so far have been the best thing about DIS, so I think he will be a reasonably good choice. Probably not perfect, but I hope good enough.

But the forced connections to TOS have so far been the weakest part of DIS. I wish they would just entirely focus on the new characters - Burnham, Saru, Stamets, Tilly et al. They are much more interesting on their own, and Burnham being Spocks adoptive sister IMO hurts the character more than it helps her.

They have assembled such a good new crew. Let them stand on their own! You don't have to shove us familiar things like Spock and the Enterprise down our throats to like that show. Quite the opposite to be frank. Give us "Discovery", not "Enteprise-fan-show-#11".

The writers are telling the stories that they want to tell.

All through TNG, people were asking "Where's Spock and Kirk at this time?" All though ENT, people were asking, "When are we going to see how this fits into TOS?" TAS had numerous sequels to TOS episodes. TMP through ST VI all had callbacks to TOS. DS9 reunited three TOS Klingons and did a sequel to the Tribbles adventure. VGR did a sequel to ST VI.

It's human nature to want connections to familiar things. If the writers concentrated only on original characters, the questions would continue.

The picture is that the most successful series, TNG, used old characters least in the first year.

Not a bad fit for Spock. Vocally much better than Quinto.
I think any ‘it’s the KT’ theories are now out the window.

Discovery is just another series set in the Star Trek universe. It's no more a prequel to TOS than DS9 and Voyager are sequels to TNG. The only thing tying Discovery to TOS is Burnham's never before mentioned link to Spock.

Voyager and Ds9 both have episodes which are sequels to TNG episodes. ENT has many prequel episodes. DSC has Burnham and the MU making it very much a prequel, and also elements that mark it as a sequel to ENT....which makes it an interquel
