Series 11 News & Spoilers

I notice the BBC has made no attempt to have the photo taken down and given how quickly they clamped down on the earlier leaks and the fact that they're pursuing legal action on multiple fronts to find out where the leaks are coming from make me even more certain that it's fake.

With Twitter and Microsoft helping out, my initial reaction would be that the same person may or may not have kept leaking the goodies.

Sorry not a fan of the new console room though I can't say I've really liked any of them since the series returned in 2005. Miss the whirr\humm, the white, the roundels and the hexagonal console.

Yeah, Hartnell's original was the best but the 80s with the sprawling corridors and rooms opened a lot more to the imagination. Now it's all one big boring circle.

:crazy:Wow. The new console room looks awful. Hopefully we won't see it that much.

Is it really that hard to have roundel walls, inner doors, and a hexagonal console with proper controls panels? Does it always have to be some badly designed pretentious mess?

So much pretentiousness and self-gratuitousness between 2005 and now... and so much money going into the Crystal Cathedral there... I'll admit, if it does glow colors and under filmed lighting instead of the static lighting for the leaked photo, it might look far better. I'd bet real money on that. Still, lighting aside, the 6 finger-shaped pillars and huge central column leave less to the imagination than the Vervoids ever had or could. And that's saying something.

Seeing all that ice and snow in the console room reminds me of the earlier rumors that the TARDIS is feeling decidedly 'frosty' about the Doctor's new... er... look. Really not liking that the console appears to be made of metal pipes and assorted plumbing. And those bowl-like hexagonal plates... is it possible Thirteen stumbled across Missy's TARDIS by mistake?

Looks like someone scuppered a public bathroom to get the fittings for the console's under-region. Steampunk's fad ended ages ago, I'd thought...

I'm beginning to wonder how much worse and b

Why is nobody asking the most important question?

Do those pillars bend and stretch at the joints? Will we see the TARDIS flexing her muscles?

The joints could be facades or they might be real. But let's think about it imaginatively: Central big thick column goes up and down while six finger-shaped appendages flex at the same time? That's a little majorly dirty because the set is a single entendre. Or the TARDIS has shiny new features with only the central column moving when it's traversing time, six spider finger appendages flexing when moving in space... either way, it's a combination of dirty and dorky.

Unless only the fingers move and the column doesn't, Not much of a difference. Was it intentional to make the set look like a cross between the Fortress of Solitude and a Fantasy Gifts store?!
I assume the crystal pillars will glow and then pulsate when the TARDIS in in flight. The central phallic console pillar might look a bit rude if it wobbles up and down though.

Is the white powdery stuff snow, saltpeter, or cocaine left over from the designers' brainstorming session?

Hmmm, going to say "saltpeter". Not because of the obvious double entendre, but because cocaine isn't legal. Most designers usually do better on LSD. Look at most shows and music from the 1960s, it's obvious they were on hundreds of micrograms of that stuff.

Or all of the above. Maybe in addition to the library and swimming pool, the TARDIS now has a mountain slope room where you can ski while high on cocaine and explosion are happening behind you. The altered gravity and the swimming pool at the bottom of the ride make this totally safe.

A new pool was put in? It was better off jettisoned or not used to begin with...

If that's really a photo it seems to have run through a ton of Photoshop filters, so I'm highly doubtful of how much it represents what will be on screen. Especially since in the unaltered photo from the other week that showed the doorway it was brown not purple.

Great. Expensive posh sets and productions treated to cheezy AfterEffects and Photoshop effects.

Wasn't the other photo just the edge of the interior combined with the (elongated) police box facade? Probably transitions in color or there was some backlighting involved... I do recall there is a photoshop-enhanced version of the latest photo, with red glowing crystals and purple backlighting on the walls. Probably done by a fan. But even the designers angry over the leak still know that whatever lighting and effects done in post-production are those everyone is still clueless about. If those are good people who've seen it all so far will still be wowed - and would still make the reactionary jokes about the cocaine, Superman's home, dirty, and other jokes no matter how cool the end result truly is. So not as much has been spoiled, unless there's nothing spectacular about the crystals being lit from inside or studio lighting or anything. I doubt it'll look that flat, regardless.

I hope.

Do they think if they make an apocalyptically ugly console room that all the female Doctor haters will get distracted?

apocryphal? It's nothing worse compared to the console rooms Doctors 9 and 10 had. It's largely the same basic layout, anyway. Even 11 and 12 had some similarities with the circular layout and tall metal beams... 12's is the most authentic in feel, though 11's bright orange version was the most innovative so far. The crystal version feels more like Bizarro's version of a Fortress of Solitude but until it's seen onscreen with post-production and filmed lighting and mechanical effects in action, it's unfair to give a complete and fair judgment.

Nope..

And not everyone is a "female doctor" hater..some are just a Jodie Whittaker Hater and a chibnall despiser. Like me..

Well a Crystal TARDIS interior isn't new. It was in the comics or Doctor Who Magazine. I believe tho, the 6th Doctor thought that was pretentious and gawdy..

Looks like Chibnall figures the Doctor changed his/her taste..hell he's probably oblivious to the comics from the DWM days and Marvel anyhow, So then again. Doesn't really matter.

Like Krypton meets timelord. Hmmm, I kinda like the interior. The doctor and show runner..nah.. Heh, the Kryptonian Desktop theme or the Fortress of solitude Desktop theme. Superwoman in a box. LMAO now!:guffaw:

Amatuer hour is nigh.
Looks like they threw everything into this console, including the kitchen sink.. Err.. or the plumbing for it.

I've liked what I've seen of Jodie's performance so far. Which isn't much but maybe it's the body language and my perceiving "Oh brilliant!" in being glad she survived another regeneration, since those things aren't comfy to go through and it's not unknown to die during a regeneration. And if she's like what the teaser suggested, being playfully manipulative, then it's so much the better and not a fake tease - where criticism would be solely for Chibnall's poor handling. We just don't know right now.

Chibnall's Doctor Who episodes have been hit or miss (but there've been far worse writers for NuWHO) and let's pretend Torchwood doesn't exist because those were utterly hideous (along with the rest of Torchwood so it's not much of a criticism when looked as an entire package)... but showrunner is a different job and at Comic Con he said he had a team of writers where he and they all worked as a collaborative effort as a team, which is new for the show. So I have high hopes in that regard.

Hmmm, Chibnall was on a talk show in 1986 lambasting the 6th Doctor era. Interesting you mention the 6th Doctor... :D Interesting how there are fan videos editing said talk show and given the title of "Doctor Who - Chris Chibnall Reviews '42'"

Ouch.

And, yeah, that's not exactly off the mark... It describes "The Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood" pretty well, too. But, again, a full collaboration of writers for the upcoming new season - I'm keeping an open mind and it's very possible the new scripts will be loaded with good surprises and few cliches.

I'm reserving judgement until I see the set in action. Even if I dislike it, I can overlook it provided the stories don't suck too much too often. The platform edge does look like a trip hazard though. Presumably, Galifrayan health and safety regulations must be quite lax.

How dare you reserve judgment until you see it in action?! Don't you realize this is the Internet you're on?!

Now, you've gone too far, sir. This is no place for reasonable and balanced consideration! Show yourself out.

Nah, they know the occupants can regenerate should they have a serious fall. No problem!

That's quite an outrageous position to take on the Internet!

Despite that, it's my approach as well. I never really dug the coral theme but the stories were generally good and it didn't hamper my enjoyment of them.

I really hope that we get some extra rooms. It is boring just having the one.

In the end, for me, I don’t really care about what the set looks like. I’m more concerned with the acting and the stories. A bad set won’t get me to stop watching a show. Bad writing, unengaging actors? Yes.

But then, nothing so far makes me worried about those two elements.

I've got a good feeling about the acting. Whitaker seems great. I'm less sure about the writing given his history with DW and Torchwood. Mixed. But, he will have a team of writers working with him. So, I'm optimistic.

Who's Whitaker? The new Doctor is Jodie Whittaker, and she isn't writing any episodes, is she? Did you mean Chris Chibnall?

If the new Tardis don't visit Metebelis III for a "Who has the best crystal" dance off, then i am done with the show for good. :p

(Pun intended, are we crystal clear on that).

(Pun pun intended, just want to make THAT crystal clear).

(Pun pun pun intended..............

Good - I wasn't clear what you meant. I'm not convinced Chibnall can deliver but I'd like to be proven wrong.
Well, Chibnall is a he, as opposed to Whittaker, so it should be pretty obvious! ;) I, too, hope to be proven wrong. He does have a team working with him, so there is hope.

[Jodie] Whittaker (with 2 tees) is a she but [David] Whitaker (with 1 tee) was a he.
Never mind, we're on the same page. :)

Gosh. Imagine if one of those massive Crystal pillars cracks and falls on the passengers! Or if the doc regenerates and blows up another console room, then crack splat! During mid regen..horrible!

That just looks like a deathtrap! Keep the TARDIS away from bangs and weapons. Cause those pillars look dangerous. Now that I've had a chance to think the design thru. Kinda scary to be in the center there.
