TNG Returns!

The Klingons are my one big concern. I don't want anymore Disco Klingons. If they do another change they should feel more in line with what we saw on TNG,DS9 etc and any differences can be explained away in head canon.

Meaningless thoughts: Stewart first played Picard ~31 years ago, closer to a 32-year span by the time anything's ready to be shown of the new series -- whereas Shatner first played Kirk in 1965 (in the second pilot) and last played him in 1994, a span of less than 30 years. (I suppose neither one will ever approach the 49-year Nimoy span, 1964-2013 -- although I wish he hadn't agreed to appear in the Abrams movies, especially the second one.)

They would be wise to avoid Klingons entirely -- or if they really want to mess with our heads, Dorn could appear as a 1967-style Klingon with the original Kor (Colicos) makeup...

My wife was surprised that I wasn't excited by the 'news' but in truth, I thought this was already out there. It's been talked about for weeks.

I like TNG well enough, and I'd wanted a post DS9/Voyager show for years, but to be honest, this probably isn't the show I hoped for.

On the other hand, you make the most of what you get and Kirsten MF Beyer's involvement is a big, big plus (I didn't think anyone could make me enjoy Voyager), so fingers crossed...

Who is Kirsten Beyer? I feel like I'm missing something here. Multiple people in this thread are excited about her involvement and I have no idea who she is.

This feels a bit like when people were excited about Bryan Fuller like he was Christ Come Again....except in that case I knew who he was, and I knew NOT to get excited.

But in this case it's good? She's a positive?

EDIT: Oh okay, so she writes Trek Lit. That explains it....I haven't read the books in years so I didn't know her.

I wonder if they will show the events in the prime universe leading up to the events of Star Trek 09 (Romulus exploding, Nero turning evil, etc.). Of course, since the late great Leonard Nimoy is no longer with us, he himself couldn't be in it, but maybe they could do what they did for Tarkin in Rogue One for his role.

My feeling is they might ignore the Romulus issue to some degree. Maybe they simply speak of the "Romulan Homeworld" and leave it at that and it means casual fans might not be cofused about the talk of Romulus exploding but we fans can assume that this homeworld is a new world or colony that has replaced it. I wouldn't expect to be seeing Remans either. My money is them all going up in the big explosion along with Remus.
One thing I am just as curious about is Ferenginar and Carddisia. Will they be different or will Rom have failed and will the Carddisans go back to being bad guys. From the description I think we are going to see the various events that bring Picard to this new stage in his life. Which could be flashbacks. I think we might see the other TNG characters in the flashbacks more than them interacting in the main story or with the new characters.

You think Data will be back but in the body of B4? As for Brent Spiner's age, they can just say that Data decided to age himself to experience what a human experiences. And yeah I know that Brent said he doesn't wanna play Data again but let's be honest......money talks.

Well maybe there can just be no Klingons at all. Ron D Moore isn't involved, is he? We don't need to have all Klingons all the time. It's my admittedly minority opinion that the introduction of Klingons in S4 of DS9 was a bad move, especially when season 3 was setting up the Romulans for a more prominent role. I think we can thank the influence of RDM for that, and for the tedious introduction of Worf.

Don't hurt me.

I think Data has a good chance of being back and is the one character I think has a chance of being more than just a cameo or guest spot in a episode. I don't think it will be Spiner though in the role. I can see them downloading him into another body thus another actor or a CGI character were Spiner voices the role or even another actor were Spiner also does the voice instead of letting the actor use his voice.

Like they did for Tarkin in Rogue One you mean?

I can see them having a lesser role but at some point you got at least do something with them even if just one bad guy in a single episode. They are one of the main alien races in Trek so to not do anything with them would seem weird. Maybe the Romulans conquered them though. Which also would play into "All Good Things" even though that future never happened it doesn't mean it still can't happen. PLus it would keep them out of the way for the most part.

Oh for sure. I'm fully expecting Klingons to appear at various points.

Klingons in general trigger me into a rant about Ron Moore though. Need to work on that :klingon:

I wonder what this show will actually be about.

Other than Picard obviously - but what else can we learn about Picard at this point? Where has Picard’s story taken him in the 20 years since nemesis? Is data alive thanks to B4? So Picard has lost then regained a friend? Did he ever marry Beverley like in beta canon? Is he an ambassador at large?

Will we see stories that we’ve not seen before in Star Trek?

With its focus on somewhat edgier topics like rape and ptsd, DSC went where Star Trek hasn’t really gone in that much detail before. Can we expect similar from the new Picard show - insofar as exploring areas that Trek wasn’t able to in the past? And do we need Picard to do that? Like Michael didn’t need to be sarek’s daughter? Have all the Star Trek stories been told at this point?

For me, like others have mentioned...the plot line will be Starfleet Academy. They have always wanted to do this.

Picard will be an admiral, a teacher, and may not necessarily be the 'main' character. But will feature in every episode.

Season 1 will follows the cadets in Starfleet Academy. Perhaps an 'elite' group that Picard has taken under his wing. This will allow the show to build characters and relationships (which will be more important then ever before, given the young age of the cadets - Star Trek 90210).

Then, season 2....we'll get a classic Star Trek story. The cadets out on a training run...something major happens. An incident of unprecedented significance. Results in the cadets having to take command of their own ship. The obvious incident, given Picard's involvement, would be the return of the Borg. Could we see Locutus again? Could be now be against the very cadets he once tutored?!

I hope it doesn't go down any kind of serious route (no f bombs, no gritty hard line stories), and keeps the hope and dreams alive that TNG inspired all those years ago. But whatever happens, I cannot wait!

The Academy Idea is a kind of easy way to go and I wouldn't be shocked if they did it but what if they went the "West Wing" idea instead and he is president of the Federation. In the same way Bartlett was the kind of president everyone kind of wishes we had in America back in the day Picard could be the kind we sort of wish we had in the modern world. A example of how a leader should act and behave. "PLus I really liked that trek book about Federation politcs and focused on the Federation President and since Beyer use to write Trek books who knows. Maybe she liked that book as well.

Honestly with all the talk of Picard not being in starfleet anymore and all the rest of it who else thinks some major incident is going to happen in the first episode culminating in Picard putting the uniform and sitting in the chair again?

Who knows what they will do, but I trust them with it, if there's one person I'd like to see also come back its Levar Burton.

He's so passionate about his character and really gave it everything for the fans in Star Trek online whereas many of the main cast on there phone it in a bit, Levar was really excited to be in the game and engaged the fans. He deserves to be back.
