Characters' birth years

I thought some of you might find this helpful. @ryan123450 for one. I've compiled a list of characters' birth years, decades, and centuries on MA. It helps you see who's a contemporary of who.

https://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/User:LauraCC/Birth_years

You might also find this mildly interesting - all known occurrences of the NATO and RAF phonetic alphabets in station names, etc. https://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/User:Lauracc/Phonetic_alphabet_occurrences

If you find any more, feel free to add them to my list.

Which means that Picard in the current novels is still captaining a starship in his 80s.

Thought he would be retired by now.

People live longer in the future. During the series and films, Picard was a decade older than Patrick Stewart. And the DS9 novels showed Elias Vaughn still robust and capable at just over 100.

Interesting.

I don't see Hikaru Sulu on the list, by the way. StarTrek.com gives his birth year as 2237.

IDW have these birth years for the Kelvin universe Star Trek crew. In Uhura's case it's preferable to the old Star Trek Chronology, since otherwise you have a 17 year old Uhura buying drinks and being hit on by a 22 year old Kirk at the start of ST'09.

Hmmm, I'd have said Bones was more than 5 years older than Kirk....

He should've been, but unfortunately TNG confused the issue. They gave McCoy's age as 137 in "Encounter at Farpoint," before they'd settled on a specific date for the series. Two dozen episodes later in "The Neutral Zone," they set the calendar year of the season as 2364, which put McCoy's birthdate in 2227. Then the Okudas' Chronology set TOS in 2266-9, which put Kirk's birth in 2233 (since he was 34 in the second season, per "The Deadly Years"). So that all added (or subtracted) up to make McCoy about 7 years younger in TOS than DeForest Kelley was. Since it happened by the accidental convergence of several unrelated dating decisions, we're lucky McCoy didn't end up younger than Kirk.
