Pike and some of his team stay on Discovery to captain it, so they switch uniform.
keep saying, the Connies having seperate uniforms is in Desperate Hours. it's explained. Someone will bring up "Book not canon! Fire Bad!" as knee jerk response, but it's been very clear these books are written in discussions with with the show rights. some material has hit the books before the showed up in episodes, this is just another case of that.
Well, they just said at Vegas 2 days ago the books are not canon.

That's at least partially true, which is why DSC s2 doesn't have to use exact copies of the Cage/WNMHGB uniforms as implied by the books.
That's true, however when material (from the trailer) provided without explanation - mostly aligns with new material provided (in the books) with explanation, then it makes sense to accept the explanation, at least provisionally. NB if DSC s2 provides an alternative explanation then that would override the books.
