Things that frustrate us all

In Germany, only hospitals, airports and the odd company or government building is air conditioned. We consider AC a waste of energy and try to prevent overheating by architectural tricks.
At my office, we start work at 6 am, air the building while it's cool and then close all windows and shut the blinds. It works well in a normal summer but this year is simply unbearable. I'm running a fan with a wet towel put over it: the evaporation cools the room down about 2-3°. And since I don't get any visitors, usually, I have a bowl of cold water hidden under my desk and stick me feet in it :D I might perhaps pinch a few ice cubes from the lab during lunch break.

Not a frustration really. More of an eye roll.

In movies, take an Eastern European city, add a red phone box or two, and Ta-daa! London.

We really can tell you know, Mr Film Producer. Stop it,

Why does Onedrive slow down to a crawl after a few moments use

1. Its crap
2. It really is crap
3. Trust me, its a crap file storage system
4. None of the above

Not to mention showing the Eiffel Tower with the caption Paris, France.

So you don't confuse it with Paris, Ontario.

(Real place, BTW.)

OneDrive to fool them all, OneDrive to unwind them
OneDrive to slow them down, and in frustration bind them

LOL that one ring/drive would also fit our misguided one-database-for-every-single-file-in-the-office policy. I'm courious how long it'll take the poor DB to crash. Any day now, I think. (I keep backups of my own data :D)

What really makes me want to scream is that some colleagues name files with dots, like for example "phonelist.01.08.2018.xls", and then complain that they can't open these files anymore.
Argh! Of course you can't! Your poor computer doesn't realize after which of the gazillions of dots the extension is listed that tells it which software to use to open that file!

the expensive ones yes, those a normal human can afford usually have AC only in the lounge, restaurant and bar. Small ones have no AC at all.
If you're planning on staying in a German hotel, you best have a look at the hotel's website. If they have AC you'll find the words "Klimaanlage" or "klimatisiert" in their room description.

If your chosen hotel has no AC try to get a room on the eastern or northern side of the building, those are coolest. (And bring an insect repellant or a net: we have no insect screens either. If you sleep with the windows open you might get stung - like everyone, our mosquitoes like foreign food :D )

Air conditioning is very commonplace here, obviously in the Summer though in the Winter the reverse cycle is appreciated.

Summer humidity is so exhausting.

I bought a transportable AC yesterday. Eco-friendly and CO2-neutral ;) Everyone on the noon-bus today envied me

This horrible heat keeps me from sleeping. Last night there was not the slightest breeze - apparently even the air molecules feel too hot. And by 1 am it was still as hot outdoors as in my bedroom. During the day you can't dare going out. Even the Central African refugees say it's rather extreme and the Syrian ones find it as scorching as we natives do.
On the other hand, it's rather amusing to see people from all over the globe suddenly dropping all prejudices when sitting at the river bank with an ice cream, complaining about the weather together :) Who'd have thought that a heat wave is such a good remedy for racism.

Spending years in honors classes for advanced/gifted students, and just taking for granted that everybody around you is supposed to be brilliant.

...and then going out into the real world. :wtf:

The terms a certain male co-worker uses to describe the female co-workers, who incidentally make up a vast majority of the staff-- the "girls, gals and chicks." His response to my criticism was, " Hey, you ARE gals and chicks, so that's what I call you-- like in real life, like we would off-line. "

I'm almost 49 years old and I have never in my entire life been a "chick." I am, however, a " supervisor " who is very good at typing emails-- you know , like the ones that get sent to HR.
