In Germany, only hospitals, airports and the odd company or government building is air conditioned. We consider AC a waste of energy and try to prevent overheating by architectural tricks.
At my office, we start work at 6 am, air the building while it's cool and then close all windows and shut the blinds. It works well in a normal summer but this year is simply unbearable. I'm running a fan with a wet towel put over it: the evaporation cools the room down about 2-3°. And since I don't get any visitors, usually, I have a bowl of cold water hidden under my desk and stick me feet in it
I might perhaps pinch a few ice cubes from the lab during lunch break.
