First, let introduce myself: Brazilian, now living in Europe, Luxembourg. Big fan of Star Wars since I was a little kid. A new fan of Star Trek since last year (still watching...to many episodes and series). I participate of an excellent Star Wars forum since 2015 called The Cantine from Star Wars New Net webpage. I recommend if you enjoy SW, btw. Discussions over there about what are the favorites and least favorites movies are very mixed. I already know how the people over there thinks about the saga, now I am just curious to know how most of people here (ST fans) think about that. So, I leave it open to choose your 3 favorites movies. You can say why you love them and also you are free to expose your opinion about the ones you dislike too.
Favorite: Rogue One Tie for next favorite: A New Hope, Attack Of The Clones Least favorite would have to be Solo. For several reasons: - Never did care much for Han Solo as a character - Ehrenreich is not that bad of an actor, but he's too "happy" to be Han - Really getting tired of seeing Woody Harrelson play the same damn character in every movie he makes - Kind of weird to see the Falcon looking so clean and pristine; I realize this is how Lando wants it, but it also means that Han sucks at maintenance because he let it get so dirty and run-down by the time ANH rolls around - Not enough space battles
Star Wars(1977) Empire Strikes Back(1980) Rogue One(2016) tied with Return Of The Jedi(1983) the rest: 5. TFA 6. TLJ 7. Solo 8. ROTS 9. AOTC 10.PM
TESB 9/10 (slow, a couple snafus, but largely worthy) TLJ 9/10 (Largely worthy despite the problems. There are moments of poor editing. Deleted scened needed to stay. Script needed some polish but is nowhere near as atrocious as some youtube critics keep complaining about, though some of them raise fair points that fall back into the script needing another draft. ) RotS 5/10 (the grim feel of the piece makes up for a ton of hackneyed dialogue and missteps and weighing quality of dialogue over quality of tone of the film, tone makes up for dialigue.) And the rest, here on Gilligan's Island: ANH 5/10 (bland, with more whiny kids than in TPM, but it has pretty shiny glowing swordsticks and big eye candy effects that nobody had really seen before.) TPM 5/10 (it's bland but is the first original SW movie since TESB. Why Maul was left as a tertiary character and killed off) AotC 4/10 (not good, all style with no substance, since all of that is inane talk and let's not talk about the sand... but Palpatine and Mace are always fun to watch.) RoTJ = 4/10 (Emperor scenes with great dialogue and done make up for a silly and overly long "Yet Another Death Star" rehash with lots of Charmin Mascots... and the other little blunder how how Leia always knew she was his sister (despite groping him in previous installments??), etc) 1978HS = 3.5/10 For something Lucas wanted every copy of destroyed, this one introduces Boba Fett, Chewie's homeworld complete with name and layout (wooded, huts in trees, etc) that would be seen canon in RotS). Bea Arthur's bit was slightly more fun than the rest of it combined. 4 of the points get dropped off for cobbling up such sappy lyrics to the SW theme, too... what the... TFA = 3/10 (without the nostalgia and daring to do something original/unexpected with established long-time fan-favorite characters this would be a 0 for being completely unoriginal. Even characters in the movie become the movie's critics and roll eyes in exasperation over "Yet Another Death Star but is a planet now, ignore the fact it has the same weakness and brazenly big trench".) RO = 1/10 (IMHO, theres's no point in making this one since 2 minutes of exposition in ANH already do the work that's now padded into a 2+ hour movie, except to test out some mostly clever CGI. Except Leia, who didn't blink once and looked like a live action Barbiedoll that just got higher than the cast of the 1978 Holiday Special based on how they look in the opening credits if not actual scenes...) Still in Control headquarters waiting to be seen: Solo = not seen yet but I do know Maul survives and presented in a way that might have made a sequel even better. Anyone reading the comics knows how he was brought back to life. Casual fans needed some exposition since we remembered he was sliced, but newbies wouldn't know or care unless they became more invested in all this.
Great to Good Star Wars movies (Ranked from my favorite down) TESB RoTJ TFA ANH TLJ RO ROTS I think all of these movies are good, so even the lower ones on the list I think are still good movies. Also, I think TFA and ANH are probably objectively better then ROTJ, but I just happen to like it a bit more. Bad Star Wars movies (ranked from worst down to least worst) AOTC TPM The Clone Wars (just the animated movie, the series was generally good) Haven't seen: Solo (I'll see it on DVD)
A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back The Phantom Menace Solo Return of the Jedi Revenge of the Sith Attack of the Clones Rogue One The Force Awakens
I can't decide on a third, damn this is hard. You missed one. The comics? It was explained in the TV series.
Return of the Jedi Empire Strikes Back A New Hope Solo Revenge of the Sith Rouge One The Force Awakens Last Jedi Attack of the Clones Phantom Menace
And so I did ... A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back The Phantom Menace Solo Return of the Jedi Revenge of the Sith Attack of the Clones Rogue One The Last Jedi The Force Awakens
Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi Revenge of the Sith Rogue One The Force Awakens A New Hope The Last Jedi Solo Attack of the Clones Phantom Menace (although the final fight scene is the bomb diggity, yo!) (The only ones I really don't like are AOTC and TPM... I can watch all the other ones at any time, despite how low they might be on the list)
The Last Jedi 9/10 Empire Strikes Back 9/10 Rogue One 7/10 The Force Awakens 6/10 Return of the Jedi 6/10 The Phantom Menace 4/10 A New Hope 4/10 Attack of the Clones 3/10 Revenge of the Sith 2/10
