Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Yes it does have a number of runabout-inspired parts, particularly the warp pylons and apparent landing pads on the bottom of the nacelles.

^^^ Good article, thank you!

Well, sure enough, the XL Defiant arrived today. The email they sent me wasn't a typo. Nice model, although the "head" is a tad-bit loose and wobbly. Other than that, it looks really good. After having stared at my AMT/ERTL Defiant model for so many years, looking at the lines on this one feels a little weird, but I get that it's probably a lot more faithful to the original. Overall, quite pleasantly surprised.

At last, an XL Reliant (I've been waiting for Diamond Select to get off their asses for years on that one) - and they did the bridge correctly - EVERYTHING correctly!! This thing is so much better than the XL E-A, you really have to wonder what happened there.

And the tiny size of the windows on the Europa really informs of quite a relatively large-scale starship.
Agreed, XL Reliant looks fantastic, which just highlights how poor the Enterprise-A turned out.

I'd love them to have another go at that, fixing all the issues. It's basically just the saucer that was completely wrong, the rest of the model looked good to me. Swap that out for a corrected one with NCC-1701 labels, and I'd strongly consider buying both that and the Reliant.

I think they'd look better with up swept nacelles.

Yeah, me too.
Agree with the comments, considering what you have to pay for these things you shouldn't have to be fixing them if there is a mistake with the product.

hero collector has previews of the two upcoming discovery ships:

not sure why they've used opaque plastic parts for the bussards on two consecutive federation ships, but the vulcan cruiser is slick af.

So, #SDCC is happening in a new days. Is it likely or unlikely they announce any new ships?

I’ve been surprised when I realised how many notable ships are still not on the drawing board (Jem’Hadar battlecruiser, Keldon class, Year of Hell ships). Gosh, I’m so greedy! :alienblush:

Looking forward to SDCC as well, and hoping we see more ships announced!

On an 1701-C Enterprise sidebar: I located an appropriately sized piece of plastic model kit leftover, and made me a small rectangular impulse drive / engine for my Ent-C.

The base colour of the plastic was as close to the hull colour of the starship, so I attached it to the rear of the neck, using supa-glue gel.

Using a red sharpie permanent marker (fine-tip) I then drew on the line of the impulse glow (I realise the Enterprise actually had a blue glow, but decided to go with the more conventional red glow).

Not the greatest custom, but overall it’s made an improvement to that section of the model (imo) and totally worth taking the risk of customising, to add the missing stardrive.

Update: I need to take some more pics and update these links - as I went back and detached the impulse engine from the neck. I felt it needed to be slightly higher up the neck, and not so close to the secondary hull.

The amended placement is much better also! :)

Will update again soon!

XL Defiant is now up for order on the US website. It doesn't say anything about pre-order so it might be shipping when ordered. There's also a bundle where you can get the XL Defiant, Regular Issue Defiant and the dedication plaque.

UK. Received email that Klingon BoP (DSC) has been shipped and is due within 14 days. Looking forward to that gothic monster.

They also have a Shenzhou in that size. Probably 1:500 or 1:350. Beautiful...and stupid expensive. I'll wait for the model kit and do it myself.

Not Eaglemoss but DST has announced the Enterprise-C. They're saying it will now come out in 2019 and will come before their already announced Reliant. With DST I'll believe it when they actually ship it though.....

it's been a long time since i've bought an action figure, but i would definitely buy that spock.

since it's DST, i'm not holding my breath about it ever actually going on sale, but it's the thought that counts.

Whoa!

As skeptical as I am about seeing DST actually deliver an Ent-C, I won’t deny I not excited to hear this!

I'm surprised about DST's Enterprise-C, as they usually do ships which they can get multiple variants. I'm guessing there will be a battle damaged C as well.

Hopefully they'll reissue the Enterprise-D, which isn't available except for silly money on eBay.

They may be planning molds for Yamaguchi/Zhukov variants with minimal up-front cost. A couple of different bussard caps, navigational deflectors and extra lower-aft shuttle bay and you have some really nice market potential.
