Carbon-free fusion power could be ‘on the grid in 15 years’

Neutrons do have a magnetic moment so they can be deflected by a magnetic field gradient (as in the Stern-Gerlach experiment) but, yes, efficient power extraction using MHD would likely be very difficult because of their overall electric charge neutrality.

50 years ago i was promised flying cars, living on the moon and a talking living home with a brain, and what did we get, fidget spinners. :wtf:

I for one am glad we didn't get flying cars. If my car dies or runs out of what ever is powering it, I can come to stop safely. Flying cars, become death from above and property damage.
Think it's hard to get a license now? Trying getting one for a vehicle that can travel in directions a car can't.
Think drivers are bad now? Imagine ones in flying cars.
No need to hijack planes and slam them into things for terrorists; handy flying cars can do that job.

Eh, who needs to live in the moon anyway?

But yeah, those fucking fidget spinners.

I think we'll get flying cars (the Return To The Future kind) at about the same time when we'll get flying pigs... maybe even a year or two later.

I actually came up with a means of nearly perpetual (would last as long as the Earth's gravity continues to pull at approximately the current level), carbon-free power production, back in 1993. Unfortunately, it requires several inconveniently city-block-sized high bounce balls.

Fifteen years before I'm dead, it'll still be fifteen years away. That's about where it's always at -- just a few years away.

I remember how excited they were when they thought that they had achieved cold fusion back in the days. I remember the dithyrambic articles in all the major science magazines.

Yeah, the second principle of thermodynamics is not your friend in that case. It would be better to do away with heat altogether and turn it directly into electricity.
Couldn't we just do away with the second principle of thermodynamics? Then it wouldn't be such an issue :)

Actually

They did that on Mythbusters making a thing with square wheels.

I am not surprised. The other day I saw that they were doing something with fart gas. They tried to burn two mannequins in a tent with their own (simulated) fart gas, assuming that they've been farting for hours and that someone lit a match...
