I quite like this. Clearly Vulcan, but with a Federation Starfleet style saucer (does it detach, by the way?). And, to my eyes, the side profile and front & rear views are evoking a Cardassian aesthetic - kind of a Galor-class look.

Thanks! I am not sure yet as to saucer seperation ability, maybe something similar to the Constitution class.

Thanks. The hull is supposed to look more copper and bronze than like wood. The image was a post processed image from sketchup, so the metallic look was hard to create. Here is a render done in blender better showing what I was going for.

Neat idea for the look, that's inspiring me actually.

Thanks! I am aware that there is an intrepid class in the 24th century, but I thought it would be interesting to have it be a name with historical significance, and also like how there was a galaxy class in the 23rd century. This USS Intrepid was named after a ship that fought in the Romulan War.

That's true, but Vulcan technology was classified. IMO, when considering the use of ring-ship designs in Starfleet craft, the result should conform to the limitations of other Starfleet craft, or maybe be just a tad faster but suffer some other handicap, or else it raises the question of why Starfleet isn't using the ring-ship design instead. (Now having said that, watch me learn that the NCC-1701 is the outlier.)

But it's your ship, and I must say that I especially like the fusion of a Constitution-style saucer with a ring-ship. Great idea!

Thanks! I didn't see you reply last time I posted in this thread. I've visited every so often but then SCN kinda stopped working.

Here is an image displaying the ring mechanism. When maneuvering in tight spaces such as spacelanes and spaceports, the ring rotates 60 degrees to give an Intrepid-class vessel a more compact shape. The bussard collectors are deactivated while in this position.

Thanks for the feedback! I remember reading somewhere that Earth abandoned the xcv-330 style ring ships in favor of the two nacelle because the ring ships weren't as manueverable and were not as suited for exploratory missions. I've actually been thinking about having some ships of this class be involved in covert missions, sort of like a 22nd century submarine.

For the 22nd century, this makes total sense! In his Rise Of The Federation novels, Christopher Bennett goes into the fact that the early Federation fleet is still a mix and match of the various species' fleets. Andorian ships make up the defensive force, Earth ships are the explorers, Tellarite ships are used for transport and such. Vulcan ships have been mostly mothballed appereantly, though I think that would be a mistake. They still make good ships. It turns out that, that Earth ships have the most logical design, in terms of internal volume and warp engine design.
