It was either autocorrect or it was me. Yeah. My fault. I meant plays. I corrected it but was not fast enough. I used to be a pretty fast touch typist but I took a fall on my motorcycle a couple of years ago and people just tend to reflexively put their hands in front of them. Had gloves on, anyway. Its not a valid excuse, but I truthfully, I type like shit since then. Something I need to work on.

It would be cool, too, if they showed Sybok having a girlfriend he knocked up, but their relationship was such where they weren't going to get stuck together, because of it.

I'd like to see Sybok driving up to the house when he thought his Dad and stepmom weren't home but as he pulls in in his 79 Trans-Am to sneak in with a load of laundry before they get back, but Sarek comes around the corner mowing the lawn with damned silent rotary-push mower cause he's trying to get a work out while he's doing the lawn, it's logical yo. But the thing is done and Sarek is like all "I need you to sit down son, because I asked you to with, I entrusted you with the very essence of my being, or in this case not going on about how your REAL mom was a princess in front of Mandy"

They try to work it out over a six pack of MGD's but the more they try to hammer things out, the less logical it gets, and plus Sybok forgot he's got his new girlfriend T'ina zonked out in the passenger seat, she's in this whole ketamine-lortab-meditation phase and Sarek wouldn't get that, and anyway it's cool he begged her not to go that, but she cant go get another tattoo every time she has to repress emotions. Anyway he heard of this non-logic sect that might do her good, and hell, he promised her if she'd go, he'd go. Sarek refuses to give him anymore money, and its pretty clear he wants his son out of the driveway before Mandy drives home from the VLC with Spock and Michael, so be the better vulcan, Sybok gives his dead a LLAFU gesture and hops through the missing t-top and open window, doing a burnout all the way down T'Pol Boulevard, sukka.

If it is another production, nothing to do with the original, then it is okay to recast the part! but I stand by what I wrote, if the actor is unavailable then they should opt for a new character, unless there is a mighty good reason for the new look! Transmogrification or regeneration or even rejuvenation!

Again, Lt. Saavik would like to have a word.

Recasting does NOT require an in-house explanation. It's a theatrical conceit that's as old as Hollywood at least. Watching movies and TV requires a certain suspension of disbelief when it comes to actors playing parts--and parts occasionally getting recast. They did it in the old Tarzan movies, they did (all the time) in the old Universal horror movies, they did it it in the Bond movies and not just with Bond, and dare I mention BEWITCHED and its two Darrins. Heck, at least three different actresses played Marilyn on the original MUNSTERS and Adam West's BATMAN met at least three different Catwomen, all of whom were mean to be the same character. That's just how show-biz works sometimes.

And, more recently, when they recast Dumbledore in the HARRY POTTER movies after Richard Harris died, should they have "explained" that a magic spell caused Dumbledore to look like a different actor? Of course not. That would have been silly. Same thing with recasting Sarek.

Audiences are smart. They understand that the actors and the characters are NOT the same thing.
