Spoilers Supergirl - Season 3

It would be folly to claim it isn't something of a cheesefest, but it's a charming and enjoyable one, and occasionally downright enchanting (particularly the flying sequences -- I love the bit where Kara paces the galloping herd of horses below). Slater gives a winning performance, and Peter O'Toole O'Tooles the hell out of his relatively small role (the man was so flamboyantly entertaining doing pretty much anything). The score's great, too. I personally love the movie, and I preordered the Blu-ray with extreme prejudice.

(Our own Christopher has a really good, though spoilerific, review of the film here.)

Slater made a great Supergirl. Probably as visually close to the source as Reeve's Superman.

Alex Danvers was not created when the movie made. But who would you have cast in the role? My first thought is Ally Sheedy.

Why was their never a Supergirl part 2? DId the movie not make any money or something?

Jason

The movie made $14.3 million domestically on a $35 million budget. There's no data on worldwide box office, but I doubt it was anywhere near enough to get them to consider a sequel.

The Salkinds pissed away any success they had. I happen like everything they produced. Some much more than others. After Supergirl they sold their Superman film rights to Canon. Which did Superman IV. They lost a lot of money on that Christopher Columbus Movie they did. While they produced the Superboy tv series they tried to regain the Superman movie rights and nothing happened. Warner Bros finally regained rights to future films. WB released Superman 1-4 but did not produce those themselves. Nor Supergirl which they did not theatrical release.

Around the time of Superman Returns Warner Bros bought full rights to the Superboy tv series and the Supergirl from Ilya Salkind. Which is why they can release this now.

That Supergirl movie is rough. The story is really stupid (especially the fact that a large chunk of it revolves around Supergirl and a Witch fighting over a man), and Supergirl is written like a clueless dope with almost no personality. There are parts I like, but honestly I think its the weakest of the old Superman movies, even including Superman III and IV, because its not just bad, its frequently boring.

Katie McGrath in her old show, Merlin

Alright, so I watched most of that series back when it first aired, I had completely forgot she played Morgana. When she first showed up in Supergirl I didn't even have I sense of 'hey I know that actor'. It just completely slipped my mind for somereason.

Apparently she was also in Jurassic World, don't remember that either.

I rewatched season 3 on Netflix (love not having to deal with the commercials) and I have to say I really enjoyed the season. Yes, there were silly plot deficiencies with respect to instantaneous switching from vulnerable Humans to invulnerable Kryptonians, but over all I loved the pacing and how the story of the Dark Kryptonians slowly unfolded.

For example, having broken hearted Kara distancing herself for months from her sister Alex and from her best friend, Lena.

How we saw Kara's healing begin before Mon'el returned when she began supporting Alex through her own relationship meltdown.

Then there was the "distraction" of Morgan Edge in the first half of the season ....

...as they insinuated Sam and eventually Reign into our consciousness was neat.

James, Winn, Cat and now Sam all know Kara is adopted, but does Lena?

I wonder if next year, the writers will recall the Alura / Alex greeting at the DEO. We / I complained that Lena was too close when Supergirl introduced Alex to her mom, fearing that she just outed herself to Lena.

But Lena has her own healthy (?) dose of hubris. If she heard the exchange / saw the hug Lena probably assumed that Alex and Kara Danvers' family adopted the Kryptonian and that was how Kara and Supergirl were so close. (Recall SG told Lena she was having coffee with Kara when the CEO called Kara that night the bad guys tossed Lena off the balcony. )

I can see Lena confronting Kara &/or Alex about the secret during an argument about whether Lena could trust Supergirl again, perhaps after the Russian Supergirl is revealed.

She was the corporate assistant who played "nanny" and got eaten by a dinosaur in their Jurassic waterpark, IIRC

Yep... I remembered right.

Her character had one of the Most brutal deaths in the movie, or on all the JP movies

Started to re-watch SG from the pilot this weekend and a couple of things came immediately to mind.

First, I miss Cat Grant AND Maxwell Lord.

Second, it was so cool when we didn't know that HH with the glowing red eyes was J'onn J'onzz.

Third, even though I'm not done, so many questions remain from season 1; like what did Maxwell Lord do with the alien tech General Lane gave him, where did Lucy Lane go since she quit being the DEO's assistant director and when did Cadmus stop being a government black-ops site and become LL's personal fiefdom?

The show is significantly weaker without Cat Grant. Calista Flockhart owned that role and the loss of her was significant. We rarely see anything of CatCo any more (does Kara even work there anymore? or have any sort of job?) and the result is that James Olsen has to be tacked into other scenes (including a relationship with Lena that just does not work for me).

Supergirl Season 4 Adds Sam Witwer as the Villainous Agent Liberty

I vaguely remember this character. Wasn't he a hero?
YAWN, we get it, the writers room hates Trump so much you're taking a C-level hero and turning him villainous to suit your desires. It's not that social or political commentary isn't something that happens in comics it's that this show beats you over the head with it hard.

Arrow handled the gun control episode good, Supergirl's version was even good.
The Trump metaphors just are so old.

With David Harewood and Jeremy Jordan off the table as regulars next season maybe we'll see less DEO and more CatCo.
