If they're going to keep delving into Sarek's family dynamics, the black-sheep son has to be acknowledged at some point. Which could be interesting, actually. Just because STAR TREK V was a disappointment doesn't mean that the character of Sybok couldn't be used in interesting ways.
Maybe a dose of spores got him all tripping to begin with.

I love the character of Sybok. Besides Khan, he's probably my favorite "guest character" in all the original movies. It would be awesome for a novel or a show to explore his background and all that led to his banishment and his beliefs prior to TFF.

Sybok could have been a later member of the same V'tosh ka'tur group that NX-01 encountered earlier.
Ambassador or Admiral or Mean Old Granny T'Pol, if she's still out there, would have a few opinions on that..

If anything Sybok would be the one at thanksgiving dinner who could tell a twenty minute fascinating story about his last teeth cleaning.

If Sybok's behavior was the same through-out his life as we saw in TFF, then he would be the "most Human' of Burnham's adopted family. For this reason Burnham might have had a easier time interacting with him, certainly when she was still a young child.
I suspect Sybok has to excuse himself to the restroom every now and then for a hit of whatever Creepy Orion Man (yes, that's his name on IMDB) gave to Tilly before he can be wildly interesting and conversational.

If they're going to shift focus onto logic extremists, perhaps showing the exact opposite (v'tosh ka'tur and/or Sybok's cult) should occur to balance things out.

Bingo!

There is only one Sarek and that role was played by Mark Lenard! :vulcan:

That statement is incorrect, regardless of punctuation. There have been shown to be at least three Sareks in various timelines.

In terms of actors, the role has been played by Mark Lenard, James Frain, Jonathan SImpson, and Ben Cross, none of whom, unsuprisingly, are actually Sarek.

Interestingly, Sarek's grandfather is Solkar, the Vulcan who first made official contact with humans and listened to Oobie Doobie with Cochrane.

Discovery needs - OK? - NEEDS a Sybok story! Hell, I never thought Harry Mudd was that interesting a character, but they brought him back. And besides, it would be glorious to see Sybok and Sarek sharing scenes -- two characters who, as originally performed, were very intriguing and dynamic individuals. A titan against a titan!!

Sybok is one of the strongest elements of TFF. Luckinbill imbues Sybok with a charisma that makes you see why people would follow him.
