They never specified what movies they could or couldn't take things from though, and considering the circumstances, they probably meant the Kelvin movies as something they couldn't take from.
Kurtzman has said they are allowed to use material from all the movies, including the Kelvin ones. And indeed, we have already seen stuff from the Kelvin movies in Disco like starship bridges having windshields and the Trek XI auditorium. So, they can obviously use anything from any of the movies, despite what Harberts and Berg may think.
If anything Sybok would be the one at thanksgiving dinner who could tell a twenty minute fascinating story about his last teeth cleaning.

If Sybok's behavior was the same through-out his life as we saw in TFF, then he would be the "most Human' of Burnham's adopted family. For this reason Burnham might have had a easier time interacting with him, certainly when she was still a young child.
Michael was what, seven or eight when she began living with Sarek? With her being "a few years older" than Spock (according to Mack's novel) and Spock being about five or so when Sybok was exiled (based on the deleted scene), there really isn't much time she and Sybok could have spent together.

Neither of those things are exclusive to Star Trek.

And I don't think that was meant to be the same auditorium from '09, as they were in Paris in DSC while the one in '09 was at Starfleet Academy.

The one in DSC has two levels of seating, while the one in '09 looks like the upper area is just for observing, not sitting.

So it isn't. exactly. the. same.

Oh my fucking ass. Sometimes this forum tries too hard to make its point. I feel like saying Starfleet is a military just so I can sit back and watch this thread devolve into utter insanity.

Truthfully? I like Star Trek V, but I don't care if we don't see or hear from Sybok.

Other than maybe as an in-joke. Where Pike asks if there's any other family Spock hasn't told him about and then Spock says, "Actually, Captain..." cut to another scene as Pike rolls his eyes. And that's it.

If, on the other hand, he is acknowledged, I know I'll get a lot of entertainment out of some of the reactions here.

You're quite the nosebleed. It was a shit movie with banal acting. An experiment that went awry. Certainly nothing that will find a place in my video library, ever.
You disliking it doesn’t mean anything.

I hate it as well. That also means nothing in the bigger picture. If they can find a way to use Sybok they probably will.

The movie is canon whether we like it for not.

Really, I don't see how they play Micheal's arc out to its conclusion without Sybok. He's the perfect counterpoint and pretty integral.

If they're going to keep delving into Sarek's family dynamics, the black-sheep son has to be acknowledged at some point. Which could be interesting, actually. Just because STAR TREK V was a disappointment doesn't mean that the character of Sybok couldn't be used in interesting ways.

It's absolutely possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If they can make Discovery Season 2 watchable then they're probably more than talented enough to do something worthwhile with Sybok.

Honestly, I want them to bring up Sybok just because of how funny it makes Spock and Michael's rivalry over which one is the bigger disappointment to Sarek. Neither of them even considers that he's probably most unsatisfied by the cult-leading pariah who renounced his entire culture.

At this point, perhaps Sarek is telling himself "Well, that's two down... but at least good ol' reliable and logical Sybok will carry on my great Vulcan legacy."

But seriously, I would love to see Sybok appear for an multi-episode arc.
